If God forbid it was my daughter & I knew I had nothing to do with it, I'd be camped out at the police department every single day until they found the killer. Not lawyering up & hiding out.
WHen you know the authorities think you murdered your daughter and refused to explore other avenues what would you do? Stand there and say arrest me now or later?
The smartest thing anyone can do is get a lawyer in that situation.
In their defense, they did exactly that. It wasn't until the police refused to look into evidence the police found at the house, refused to release the body of JonBenet for burial and would only focus on the parents that they "lawyered up".
Even after that the Ramseys continued to take lie detector tests (passed them all) giving hand writing analysis (neither of them) gave hair, blood and semen samples (no match).
In many ways the Ramseys were found guilty and sentenced by the press. Yet the police could not even get a grand jury, where ONLY the prosecution is represented, to come back against the parents.
Obviously you've never been in that situaltion, if you had you'd probably do exactly as they did. Your attorney is going to tell you to keep your mouth shut and say nothing to the press. The DA can use even the most innocuous statement you make as ammo that will put a noose around your neck. No matter if you are innocent or not, once you are indicted your chances of being convicted are high, even if the evidence is flimsy.
