As state authorities interviewed people yesterday regarding the beheadings of three Rosarito Beach police officers and a civilian, funeral plans were announced for the three law enforcement officers.
Police Officers Ismael Arellano Torres, 36, Jesús Hernández Ballesteros, 42, and Benjamín Fabián Ventura, 35, were slain after an armed group surrounded their cars Tuesday night in a remote part of the city, authorities said.
Their bodies were found Wednesday in Rosarito Beach, their heads in Tijuana.
Today, a Mass will be said at 11 a.m. for the three at a local church – Santo Niño de Atocha – in the Colonia Ejido Mazatlán, according to Rosarito Beach city officials.
Their caskets will then be taken to City Hall and to the police station for final honors.
Meanwhile, six people who are suspected of having “links or information regarding the four crimes” are being interviewed, according to a news release from the State Attorney General's Office. No further details were provided. The killings are being investigated by the state agency's organized crime group, which focuses on highly sensitive drug and kidnapping rings.
Also yesterday, U.S. officials identified a civilian who was beheaded at the same time as the officers as Rodolfo Aguilar Masforroll, 31, a Mexican citizen who had been deported from the United States in 2004.
Mexican officials had initially identified Aguilar as Fernando Avila, 28, of Phoenix.
