This is a great example for the kids:
- Your "random number" is T*10 + D (T = tens digit, D = ones digit)
- The sum of the digits is (T+D)
- Subtract the sum from the original number: T*10 + D - (T+D) = T*10 - T
- T*10 - T = 9*T, which is always a multiple of 9 as written in post 2
