Wow, what a game! Carolina came out skating fast - and hitting hard.
I'm glad to see Carolina win the Stanley Cup. I watched the 2002 Stanley Cup and was disappointed when they lost to the Red Wings.
Edmonton played well and was a much stronger opponent than I thought!
Comments or opinions (on the series or the game) - anyone?

"The local broadcast channel can choose what they want to show."
Well, that's true - the local station here showed it, at least.
Hockey Trivia: What state has the most professional hockey teams (including minor-league teams)?
Answer: TEXAS, of all places, with 10.
So hockey IS expanding its base. It's going to take a while (the new rules opening up the game will do nothing but help).
OLN (which will be known as VERSUS starting in September) was the best the NHL could do for a network, but they'll have to get on more cable systems and show more games.

LOL
well you become the GM of a team and try to get ANY talent for anything approaching $100,000 these days.
You won't convince ANYONE ELSE of what YOU think the market value of the players are.
Sorry, I don't see why someone on a supposedly CONSERVATIVE forum would begrudge ANYONE making as much as they can in anything they do.

I don't know why anyone prefers soccer to hockey.

OLN (which will be known as VERSUS starting in September)"VERSUS"? Yuck. But I guess I'll get used to it. It couldn't continue to be the Outdoor Life Net anymore.

Hockey is an awesome game. The speed, the skill, the goalies... OK, my son is a goalie. LOL. I find basketball boring -- after all, it's so EASY!
I only enjoy watching football and hockey, of the team sports.

I was pulling for the Canes, but only because I couldn't bear to see the Oilers win after beating my Sharks. Also, it's a nice story to have two of the most revered championship trophies on the same mantel, in a sense; Bret Hedican's name will adorn the Stanley Cup, and his wife Kristi Yamaguchi has already won an Olympic gold medal. They are the First Family of Ice!

Disgusting. The Sabres should be hoisting the cup.
The Whalercanes coach is a whiny sniveling metrosexual.
The pitiful hillbillies barely beat the Sabres which had their top scorer and 4 of their starting 6 defensmen injured. They took seven games to beat the Rochester Americans (Buffalo's farm team) defense. The hillbillies also took seven games to beat a #8 seed for the cup.
A healthy Buffalo team would have won the Cup.

Simply quoting statements from fellow players and announcers. Wasn't aware you are a big Daryl Strawberry, Bonds and Michael Irvin fan. Go ahead and buy seasons tickets to every sport in your town. The players need your support. How pleasant you use the shift key rather than thinking.

"Where does Ontario rank ?"
Well, 16 in the OHL, and about 70 listed at the OHA site (don't know whether they're pro or not).
So, yeah, we got a ways to go...

North Corolina wins Stanley Cup???...Oh Canada!..what the hell happened?...A bunch of Red Necks whacked your national sport!
To: Finalapproach29er
You are so correct. I've been waiting 28 of my 36 years to see a Blue hoist the cup above his head. And to think the stinking Whalers got there first.
However, as a NC resident in Charlotte I am thrilled for the Hurricanes. It was an excellent series.

Considering how many times a Canadian team has one the Stanley Cup over the years, I'm sure they'll survive this "drought".

Watching Carolina win the Cup before Minnesota has is blasphemous and sickening. Not really. The NHL turned its back on Minnesota by allowing the The North Stars to move to Dallas, leaving Minnesota without a team for years. The Minnesota 'Wild' (stupid name) have yet to catch on. There's no history. U of M Gophers college hockey often seems more popular.

I actually watched the game last night. Even had me on the edge of my seat a few times.
That goal/no-goal/maybe goal/no-goal play was something else.
