The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Great:) My farrier just left here. The last 2 days my back has been good. If it stays good the rest of the week I hope to get back to riding next week.

Still no call back from my farrier! I don't know if I should just try to someone else or what. I'm in denial about it.

We're going to go for the ride later this afternoon, when it warms up. Still chilly here!

Shoes are at 9 weeks and counting... still solid, but long, and when they get long Bay tends to trip. "Watch your feet" will be the keyphrase for the day.

Oh - and I am VERY glad to hear your back is better.

I would go ahead and call somebody else because it might take a couple of weeks to get worked into their schedule. 10 or 11 weeks is an awful long time to go without a trim.

I know how you feel. I cannot get my neighbor farrier to come so we have to haul the horses to Frogs farrier which is 2 hours away. We are at 8 weeks and need to get them done. Feet look good just long. Time has been against us the last few weeks.

Are you still thinking about letting that Bing boy try his hand at the NB shoes?

Oh - I just hate finding a new one!

OK - I looked up at the Natural Balance site and there is a woman who is here in Olympia, but I looked her up on the web and she's also some kind of touchy feely clicker trainer and her answering machine says "Hi, welcome to 'so and so's positive clicker horse training and natural foot care" Jeepers... I just don't take crunchy granola people that seriously...

I looked up and there's one Journey level farrier listed on the AFA Washington site for Oly...

Called Bob, he rattled off a couple of names, none of which are on either of those directory sites... for that matter, my farrier isn't a member or listed on any directory either.

Phooey.... left another message with Mark.

Thing is, if I got another farrier to come, I'd feel like I was cheating on Mark, when Mark's the one that stood ~me~ up!

Well my friend Bob called Mark too, and left a message, and he's called his friend Ed, told him to call... Mark's going to think I sent a posse after him.

I would like to but I am worried he is going to just put them on like regular shows and not set them like they should be. I also worry he will not trim them right. We have put so much time and money in Jakes feet I really would like to keep Pistol on them for at least another few times. We need to get Bing out to trim Queen, maybe I will give him one of those CD's. Gary said when he mentioned the CD's to him before he seemed insulted. I guess one time would not hurt would it?

Oh He//, you don't have to eat her granola, just let her do your horse feet and blow off the rest. ;o) She would probably do very well. Especially on Cyn's bare feet.

She would do fine on Cyn... I just don't want her trying to talk me into barefooting Bay. And I don't want her clicking around us either... LOL

I probably have an unfair attitude toward clicker trainers because the clicker dog people that I would run into at dog shows were the fruitiest ones of the lot ;~)

Well, you could let him try and we'll look at them and see how he does and if he doesn't do them right you can always go back to Pistol. Especially since he'll just be doing a reset and wouldn't have to have the shoes in stock himself.

Now if she were listed on the Pete Ramey site she probably would, but since she's listed on the NB site and they're promoting the people who know how to apply their shoes, I kinda doubt that she's going to try to get you to go barefoot. But if you're not going to ride any more this winter then it might do him some good to let her pull his shoes and give his feet a rest until you get ready to ride him again next spring. {Click Click} ;o)

They make you feel that way, farriers are so touchy about certain things, you have to be real careful about what you say or they get their feelers hurt.

Yeah, I was thinking about that last night. I may go ahead and call the Bings and see if they can come reset the NB shoes and trim Queen. Maybe put shoes back on her in case Jake is not better for our ride the 28th.

Yeah, I'd definately keep her set to go as a backup given the way Jake's been feeling here lately. Poor Guy!

He's not comfortable in the driveway barefoot while he's waiting for the shoes to come out of the forge. I wouldn't do it to him. Not only has he had shoes for his whole life, he's had pads on for the last three years. His feet are probably as tender as they come.

So she can click right off :~)
