DALLAS At least part of the movie version of "Dallas" will be filmed in its namesake city.
Janis Burklund, director of the Dallas Film Commission, said Monday she received word from 20th Century Fox, the studio behind the production, that at least one-third of the movie would be filmed in Dallas.
Work on the $70 million film is scheduled to begin in mid-October. Producers are expected to shoot in the Dallas area for the first four weeks before moving to Shreveport, La., for the remaining eight weeks.
"I would have hoped for the whole thing," Burklund told Dallas-Fort Worth television station KTVT. "However, I would have to say yes, it is still a win. We're getting more than we initially thought. Initially they told me four or five days ... so yeah, I'm happy."
In March, the city and the film commission launched the "Shoot J.R. in Dallas" campaign to try to lure producers to the city. But their efforts were hindered by what industry analysts say is a lack of tax credits and incentives offered by the state.
Texas offers a sales tax exemption, but little else. Lawmakers passed an incentives bill during a recent legislative session that would offer producers up to a $750,000 rebate, but it wasn't funded.
Dallas, a remake of the classic television series with the same name, will star John Travolta as the conniving Texas oil baron J.R. Ewing and Jennifer Lopez as his wife, Sue Ellen.
Ain't that the God's Truth. John Travolta as JR Ewing?!??!? WTF???
You would think they could have gotten Larry the Cable Guy at least.
"and Jennifer Lopez as his wife, Sue Ellen."
WTF!!!!!
You would think if they wanted people to actually see this, that they would case people that would fit the role.
All remakes are just about reimagining tv shows and movies for laughs.
Was there any truth to the rumor of Travolta replacing Divine for the "musical" adaptation of Hairspray?
I'm waiting for a movie based on the the TV show "Diff'rent Strokes". I'd pay ten bucks to see that!!!
Although, they would probably do something dumb like get Tom Hanks to play Mr. Drummond when it should be someone like Tom Selleck. Gary Coleman could still play Arnold because it would just make it that much funnier.
Shoot them twice. I'm sorry, J.R. would never have married a Latina and anyone who's watched the show would know that.
