DURHAM -- Duke All-American basketball player J.J. Redick was arrested Monday night on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol.
Officers had a license checkpoint station set up in Durham Monday night at South LaSalle Street and Kangaroo Drive, near Duke Manor.
Shortly before 1 a.m. Tuesday, officers said a 2005 Toyota SUV approached the checkpoint and then the driver made an illegal U-turn away from the checkpoint.
A police officer followed the Toyota, which then turned into the parking lot of the Belmont Apartments on McQueen Drive.
The driver that got out of the vehicle was J.J. Redick. Redick blew a .11 BAC after he parked his vehicle, and officers then charged him with a DUI and unsafe movement of a vehicle for the illegal U-turn.
There were several passengers in Redick's car, but their names are not known at this time.
Redick has been released on a $1,000 cash bond.
I am, in fact, a Doctor of Philosophy. We still haven't found the cure.
You won't find a cure. You either like the Heels or you don't.
Actually, I'm finding that it was snotty Dean Smith that I disliked. Roy Williams is OK.
That's understanable. He is the only coach k has a losing record against.
Thats OK - soon K will wipe Smith completely out of the record books. Roy's got a long way to go before he equals K's record in any way shape or form.

Only because Smith retired. You being a Philosopher should know that will never happen. Unles you are a Doctor of the Philosophy "When monkies fly out of my ass."

What happened was there was a party of five and 30 shots. JJ took all of the shots.
I am from Durham and I didn't realize Durham was a party town on Monday nights!
Nonsense. No Naismith Award winner has ever failed to make the NBA out of the draft, not even NBA underperformers like Butch Lee (1974) or Jay Williams, whose career was cut short by a motorcycle accident. Either on the floor or on the bench, J.J. Redick will be in an NBA uniform at tipoff opening day next season (barring injury).
BTW -- Before you point out that Williams is a Dukie, take a look at the NBA quality players out of Durham lately: Elton Brand, Luol Deng, Corey Maggette, Carlos Boozer. Dunleavy Jr. of my Warriors ain't in that class, but he has his moments.
I'm with you. Redick is plenty good enough to plan on playing at the next level. Besides, he is a Duke grad with good job prospects without basketball.
Besides again, his family does plenty well enough to afford an SUV for a graduation present if they want to buy one for him.
That's not to say he doesn't have bunch of lessons to learn, growing up to do, etc....
We'll see how he makes it in the drug and sex pits of the NBA cities.
Any parent should think twice before sending an athlete to Duke. Duke chooses to abandon some athletes but not others? Imagine if your kid got in a fist fight with a local? The PC Durham police and the Duke admin would suspend first then have race sensitivity courses for months. Yuck
Gosh, LB you can read my mind and post what I would have posted. Downright amazing. You're especially right about Dean Smith, even hearing the name annoys me. I can't get the animosity toward Carolina worked up like I used to when Smith was there.
Mr. Recall Moran said CGM is manic depressive/bi-polar (which I surmised on some thread long ago). Have you seen that in the news? He's left for Pittsburgh and I can't find it. He told me in my "stayed up all night with coughing toddler" stupor.
Well, facts is facts. No excess mental powers required.
I know I, at least, made some remark very early on (March?) about the pills listed on the search warrant as being found in the bathroom as being "bipolar pills" or something to that effect. The search function here stinks and I don't have the patience to hunt back for it.
I'm sure I wasn't the first to suggest something like that.
