Germany, the hosts of the 18th FIFA World Cup, kick off the tournament on Friday against Costa Rica in Munich (LIVE on ABC at 11:00AM ET).
This represents a change to a tradition established back in 1974 which saw the defending world champions having the honour of getting the proceedings under way. The other two teams in Group A, Poland and Ecuador, will fight it out later in the evening.
The game is not that good compared to the match Germany-Costa Rica, but at least the Poles are fighting now. I wished that Poland had won, so that they could be No 2 (after a loss against Germany ;-) in group A. I´m sure that Germany will win all three games in this group. As far as I can see, both teams (POL and ECU) are not unbeatable.
Ecuador is just gonna do some long ball and whistle past the grave yard for the next 15 minutes. No need to expose themselves at this point.
I´d do the same. But in the long run, defensive play is not the better option.
Janas should be sacked right afterwards if Poland loses this game.
GOAL. POL-ECU 0:2
dang, now the poles really aren't going to win
What so frustrating if you are a Polish fan is that in the last WC, they played awful in their first two games, and then looked totally dominant against the US when it didn't matter.
The Poles look terrible!
Correction:
Drogba can be on fire as much as he wants, but it will not help Ghana.
He plays for the Ivory Coast.
*hides head in shame*
I really hate inconsistent offsides calls ... that was more obvious than the one against Poland earlier in the half.
Still, the way Poland is sleepwalking, they don't merit the win.
Its ok, I was thinking Wanchoppe earlier today, but saying Diaz Arce from El Salvador...doh'
It's gonna get ugly with those Polish fans there I'm afraid.
Yes, sad, actually. Now we´ll see a good fight between Germany and Poland - it´ll be the decisive match for Poland! Considering what I see now, I don´t think that they´ve a chance against "die Elf", though.
Yeah, but Pole know better than to riot around thousands of cheering Germans.
You remember last time....
What's the story about the Polish hooligans...
Never head of that before...
Yep, we´ve also heard of the Hooligans-problem. I hope the police can fix it... the border patrol has sent some groups home at the border. The cooperation between the German police and its European colleagues was pretty good, there are also police officers of several European nations patrolling in Germany to help their citizens with the language barrier and to deter them from behaving inproperly.
If Poland had played this aggressive the whole game...
"Yeah, but I don't see a single African team making it out of groups. Its a very weak African representation. No Egypt, Nigeria, Cameroon, Senegal or S. Africa. "
The Ivory Coast has some really good players - Drogba (if he can be bothered), Kolo Toure (and his brother, I hear) and Eboue.
They are, however, in a very tough group.
DON´T MENTION THE WAR!
LOL. Seriously, the Polish hooligans are so bad, that they deter normal Poles from visiting stadiums. The problem is real, and some have made it across the border despite the good efforts of the Polish and German polices.
