Germany, the hosts of the 18th FIFA World Cup, kick off the tournament on Friday against Costa Rica in Munich (LIVE on ABC at 11:00AM ET).
This represents a change to a tradition established back in 1974 which saw the defending world champions having the honour of getting the proceedings under way. The other two teams in Group A, Poland and Ecuador, will fight it out later in the evening.

Thanks ;-). And good luck to the Polish team, too. Actually, I have a bet running with a few friends of mine. So far I'm spot-on with my prediction of Germany beating Costa Rica 4 - 2. So now you Polish guys need to win 2 - 1 for me to win my bet *lol.

Well as long as the Ecuadorian goalkeeper doesn't score a goal, Poland should be ok. :)
BTW is Boruc going to be in goal?

Not a double header, two games in two different cities.
Its the world cup.
