NORMANGEE The owner of two show pigs is accused of shooting and killing his neighbor after the man apparently slaughtered the pigs, believing they were wild hogs on the loose, Leon County authorities said.
Joseph Clampitte III, 50, of Normangee, was found shot to death in his back yard Saturday. Preliminary autopsy results showed he was hit five times, including a fatal wound to the back of the head.
Daniel Tolopka II, 34, of Normangee, was arrested on a murder charge. He was released Monday on $250,000 bond.
Sheriff Mike Price said Clampitte shot the hogs, which had been rooting in his yard.
Price said Clampitte was skinning the hogs when Tolopka arrived home and became enraged. Authorities say at least 15 rounds were fired at Clampitte.
Price said investigators found a trail of 9 mm shell casings from Clampitte's body toward Tolopka's home.
An officer said in a sworn affidavit that they found a 9 mm pistol hidden in a stove in Tolopka's home.
Or maybe not.
Justifiable homicide?
Where are the liberals complaining about vigilantes?
Someone shot Jed Clampitte? Maybe it was Mrs. Drysdale.
I think the moral is, "Don't let your show pigs escape and root around in your neighbor's yard and then shoot him when he shoots them or you'll go to prison for life." But that's not very pithy.
Great post.
Trouble at the DNC?
Clampitte? Jed? Ellie Mae? Jethro?
Yeah, is the implication that he shot them on the pig owner's land? If not, then it's the pig owner's fault anyway.
Time to rev up Ole Sparky, I think.
Th th th that's all folks!
I will say that hogs running loose rooting up your yard makes one angry, to say the least.
Joe should have moved out to Beverly Hills with Jed, grandma, Jethro, and Ellie May.
The Clampitte name seems fitting for some reason.
Pithy or not, I bet Tolopka wishes he had taken your advice.
Reminds me of the old Clinton joke where Bill gets off the chopper with a pig. He tells the Marine guard that he got this pig for Hillary.
"Nice trade, sir", the Marine says.
More casualties than the Great Pig War.
Price said investigators found a trail of 9 mm shell casings from Clampitte's body toward Tolopka's home.
Moral of this story ... use .45ACP and stop wasting ammunition.
Or, Take the effort to get to know your neighbors. It should not come as too much of a shock that your neighbor raises pigs or whatever IMO. Whatever happened to small claims court?
More reliable that a trail of bread crumbs.
