The Edmonton Oilers learned Monday what the rest of the NHL found out long ago. When youre playing the Carolina Hurricanes, no lead is safe.
Rod BrindAmour scored into an empty net with 31.1 seconds to play after Oilers backup goalie Ty Conklin misplayed the puck behind the net, giving the Canes a 5-4 win in the first game of the Stanley Cup finals.
Down three goals late in the second period, the Hurricanes scored four goals in less than 14 minutes to take the lead with 9:58 to play, and that was just the beginning of a wild third period.

That's true. I'd like to see Carolina get their first cup :)
I know what you mean. Once your team is out, if you really enjoy the game, there is usally one surrogate team you root for. I was kind of rooting for San Jose some also and they played a hard series but Edmonton just got the better of them.
What you said.
Although we hail from Atlanta and both my wife and myself used to watch Atlanta Flames games (Bernie 'Boom Boom' Geoffrion in typical interview: 'I t'ink de Atlanta Flame play good hockey tonight'), my entire family is now absolutely hockey-crazed (The term here is
'Caniacs'.)
My wife's done everything but get a Hurricanes logo tattoo (hope she doesn't read this.)
I heard a good ol' boy call in to a sports-talk radio station and expound at length about how he never cared about hockey before but now he's really into it but force of habit (and perhaps excitement about being on-air) caused him to refer to the opposing team as the HOUSTON Oilers; the host gently corrected him.)
While tickets are not a possibility as I've been jobhunting since February with the odd consulting gig thrown in, we've been going to a local 200-seat cinema/drafthouse that shows the games on their screen.
Best wishes to all the Edmonton fans and sorry about y'all's goalie. I predict an eminently watchable series even without him; Canes in 5.
probably just coaching strategery and Rollie will play some more yet.
smartass ;)
Yep. That last goal was just....well, unbelieveable!
Without Roloson, the Oilers are going to be in trouble.
