Mrs. DFU is a big fan of American Idol and of the guy who should have won, Chris Daughtry.
Here is Chris playing for the audience at the McLeansville shopping center.
Years ago I ripped out my cable. I watch two things -- FOX NEWS SUNDAY and AMERICAN IDOL with Mrs. DFU.
Through a connection to Ford, I was able to take her to see the final performance show of Hicks v. McPhee. They should have both been voted off.
Last Wednesday I got the brilliant idea of taking a roadtrip to North Carolina to see the Chris Daughtry homecoming in McLeansville. At the last minute, I was able to get a pretty good deal on a package deal, I called her at work and told her to take two days off, and we were on the plane at 6:00 AM the next morning. Hey, once in a while it is okay to spend some money foolishly.
We had to fly into Charlotte, spent a night there, and headed to Greensboro on Friday morning.
Before the trip, I tried to set up some contacts to make sure we would be able to get into the concert because they were expecting an overflow crowd. There was even talk of people wanting to camp out the night before.
It went even better than Mrs. DFU could have imagined. Since I am hoping to write a few articles for publication, I am not going to include any more of the photos.
Proceeds of the concert went to the Children's Home Society of North Carolina. I spent an hour with them gathering information. They were ecstatic when they found out they would be the beneiciary of the concert.
I managed to score media passes for both of us, and we attended the press conference on Saturday morning. Yep, I got to ask a few questions from our front row seat and then a few more when we got a photo op with him. We were a few feet from the stage at both events. In the front rows of the concert at Jamieson Stadium were adoptive parents and children.
In case you wonder, Chris Daughtry is the real deal. I spoke to many people about him. He is a good father, husband, and role model. He gave kids the message of working hard for your dream. Chris was active in the PTA and in his kids' lives. He sang at the church. He married Deanna when she was a single mother and raising two small children. She is seven years older than him.
A week ago he flew to NY to see Pearl Jam in concert but could not tell us with whom he met and why. There is no doubt a big contract in the words. I believe he will become the biggest star who has ever appeared on American Idol.
God gave him some incredible talent, and it looks like this young man is going to use it the right way.
Idol really should put out the CD of all of his performances. It would be a big time seller. They would, of course, have to work out a deal with those who have the music rights.
Thanks for the update on Chris Daughtry.
Mrs. DFU is lucky to have a guy who always says: "Your wish is my command, dear."
Oh, I'm sorry. I would go with you if I lived close by :)
On my commutes I now listen to Dr. Laura. I'm irritated right now with all politicians, so I'm off most shows now. Although, Bill Handel is on 165 XM on weekends with his Handel on the law show.
Why thank you..that is sweet...
I am hoping I will change someone's mind by then..LOL
That is not the case. Like all husbands, I have my share of times when she is upset with me.
my allergies are going crazy!!
When you sneeze think of me! :)
I was voting for Chris, Taylor and Elliott. Here's wishing them all great success in their careers.

Second the solo trip to the concert! I went to the Clay & Kelly concert solo, too, and had a blast. Took my son to his Christmas concert - it was wonderful, too. I have two tix to the Sacramento show at the end of summer for us. If he's otherwise occupied (traveling with dad), I'll go anyway!
Doug - You're a GREAT husband! I'll bet Mrs. DFU was just overwhelmed! Yay for you!!
I like Chris a lot, too - can't wait for his CD.
Yep! That's the way it's done around these parts.
I discovered youtube.com. If you do a search on Taylor Hicks, you can find some good stuff. There are a couple clips with this kid named LD Miller who plays his harmonica for Taylor, and the reception he got from the evil WalMart shareholders was amazing.
Mrs. DFU was indeed overwhelmed. To get to meet him for photo ops at the press conference made the weekend. She said it was even better than our Maui trip of a few years ago.
on mrdaughtry.com, they have all the videos and audios. on rickey.org (I think that was the site), I was able to download all of Daughtry's songs from Idol. Since they were fair use from television, she has a CD for her personal use.
Thanks, I'll go check out youtube.com.
Bump for later downloading. thank you for the info
She got a big smile. I can't remember for sure, but she might have gotten a hug. Two articles are set to be published.
Keep me posted on the articles - the when, where, who, and anything else I need to know! I'll be sure to get copies.
One is in a biker magazine, and the other in an adoption magazine. I'll let you know.
