Mrs. DFU is a big fan of American Idol and of the guy who should have won, Chris Daughtry.
Here is Chris playing for the audience at the McLeansville shopping center.
Years ago I ripped out my cable. I watch two things -- FOX NEWS SUNDAY and AMERICAN IDOL with Mrs. DFU.
Through a connection to Ford, I was able to take her to see the final performance show of Hicks v. McPhee. They should have both been voted off.
Last Wednesday I got the brilliant idea of taking a roadtrip to North Carolina to see the Chris Daughtry homecoming in McLeansville. At the last minute, I was able to get a pretty good deal on a package deal, I called her at work and told her to take two days off, and we were on the plane at 6:00 AM the next morning. Hey, once in a while it is okay to spend some money foolishly.
We had to fly into Charlotte, spent a night there, and headed to Greensboro on Friday morning.
Before the trip, I tried to set up some contacts to make sure we would be able to get into the concert because they were expecting an overflow crowd. There was even talk of people wanting to camp out the night before.
It went even better than Mrs. DFU could have imagined. Since I am hoping to write a few articles for publication, I am not going to include any more of the photos.
Proceeds of the concert went to the Children's Home Society of North Carolina. I spent an hour with them gathering information. They were ecstatic when they found out they would be the beneiciary of the concert.
I managed to score media passes for both of us, and we attended the press conference on Saturday morning. Yep, I got to ask a few questions from our front row seat and then a few more when we got a photo op with him. We were a few feet from the stage at both events. In the front rows of the concert at Jamieson Stadium were adoptive parents and children.
In case you wonder, Chris Daughtry is the real deal. I spoke to many people about him. He is a good father, husband, and role model. He gave kids the message of working hard for your dream. Chris was active in the PTA and in his kids' lives. He sang at the church. He married Deanna when she was a single mother and raising two small children. She is seven years older than him.
A week ago he flew to NY to see Pearl Jam in concert but could not tell us with whom he met and why. There is no doubt a big contract in the words. I believe he will become the biggest star who has ever appeared on American Idol.
God gave him some incredible talent, and it looks like this young man is going to use it the right way.
Nice humorous post.
Chris is my favorite, too. I think he is just such a decent guy, and his love for his family is very evident. **Sigh** I just love a strong family man. It goes without saying that he has a fantastic voice.
Thanks for sharing your experience. And what a treat! Mrs. DFU must be very happy! :^) How cool
Yes, she is very happy.
Everything I saw and heard about Chris was good. It is great to someone like him achieving success. In the business are so many scumbags. We are going to see him do some great things.
I hope you do get published, but if you don't, you know you can always publish here on FR!
So, since Mrs. DFU was in the front, did she get a wink or a smile or ... anything?
Please post your articles!
I have read some of you AI stories regarding Chris. Now I'm starting to wonder who the real fan is, Mrs. DFU or you!!!! ;)
She started it, but I actually enjoy very much listening to his music. How did I do without talk radio for four days?
Look who is here! Just in time for Tuesday withdrawals. ;-)
I was thinking of you over the weekend, because my allergies are going crazy!! Hope yours are better. I know the humidity does not help at all.
Humor keeps me going.
In any event, tell me if you can confirm this story or not:
I have read that Chris's wife was a widow. And when Chris became serious with Deanna, Chris wrote a song to her 4 year old's (deceased) father, and how thankful he was to now have the opportunity and the gift to love his little boy. I think somewhere in the words of the song, Chris says how sorry he is that this man didn't have the chance to say good-bye.
If this is true, and I'm about 75% sure that it is, I think it will put to rest any of the doubters about this man's soul and his integrity.
Even if the music stopped tomorrow, this man simply rocks! Deanna and her son struck gold even with Chris' mouth closed.
Thanks for the ping jonny!
I have no doubt that Chris will do just fine. I'm glad he turned down the Fuel gig. He probably got another pretty sweet deal.
As far as Idol non-winners who go on to bigger things, Chris will do the best so far, I think.
Hi there, RK! I know what you mean about the allergies. It's been awful so far.
I'm starting to think I am allergic to nature in general. LOL
They have just been horrible this year. Someone on the AI thread recommended Opcon eye drops for itchy eyes. They are fantastic! I couldn't believe how fast my eyes cleared up after using them.
Of course, as I type they are mowing the lawn outside. (Leaving to find my Claratin.....)
Chris is going to outsell everyone from all of the previous Idols. AI is going to change their whole thinking too, about "rockers" on Idol. Maybe Chris is a "rocker," but his appeal is to all ages. I think Chris has changed Simon's thinking.
Taylor is fun and a decent singer, but I think a lot of his appeal comes from watching him. Katherine belongs on Disney soundtracks because her genre is ballads.
He married Deanna when she was a single mother and raising two small children. She is seven years older than him.His wife mentioned that, weeping, during the audition. I fell in love and became his number one fan then and there.
Mrs. DFU became a big fan because of both his music and the poignant story. Sorry, I'll know to ping you next time.
His Idol performances are fair use and won't be put out as an album, so I burned a CD. Mrs. DFU listens in the car and while working in the quilt room.
