HAYWARD, Calif. - A motorist who sped through a Hayward cemetery in an apparent road-rage pursuit of a car that cut him off died after crashing into a mausoleum, police officials said.
The driver was killed when his classic Corvette skidded out of control while navigating a turn Sunday inside the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery and crashed in front of mourners watching a nearby burial, said Hayward police Lt. Gary Branson.
The identity of the Corvette's 52-year-old driver was not being released Sunday night, pending notification of next of kin, the Alameda County Coroner's Bureau said.
A pair of crypts inside the mausoleum were jarred open, but the caskets inside were not damaged, Branson said.
The Corvette was cut off by a Mercedes-Benz convertible on a street outside the cemetery before following the car inside and chasing it at high speeds, witnesses said.
The driver of the Mercedes-Benz kept going after the crash and was being sought as a witness, but is not thought to have caused the crash, Branson said.
I could think of worse ways to go.
The officers promptly tossed him into one of the open crypts, and moved on.
No one got a look at the other driver, his face was hidden by a large black hood, but several witnesses reported his hands looked rather..."bony";)
Maybe not that fast, but you can be assured the undertaker pitched his pitch to the people involved...
What year 'Vette? The article just says "classic."
man fatally injured in a car crash possibly fueled by a road-rage incident Sunday morning at a cemetery in Hayward has been identified as Michael Joseph Eleazarraraz, 51, of Newark, the Alameda County Coroner's Bureau reported.
Eleazarraraz died after he crashed his 1967 Corvette convertible into a mausoleum at a cemetery, the Hayward Police Department reported.
According to witnesses, at 9:17 a.m. Eleazarraraz was traveling northbound on Mission Boulevard near Harder Road when a Mercedes Benz convertible abruptly pulled out in front of the Corvette, police reported.
The two drivers reportedly appeared to be talking with one another when the driver of the Mercedes Benz motioned that he was turning into the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery at 26320 Mission Blvd., according to the department.
The Palm Reader said, "I see you being buried in a Mausoleum, with your Corvette by your side." To which the man laughs and says, "Lady, surely for 20 bucks you can do better than that!"
I thought he drove a Cadillac.
He rides a pale horse.
According to Google, there is a Lupe Eleazarraraz buried in a crypt at that cemetery. Weird!
Oh the Hugh Manitee!!!! The heck with this idiot, it is a SIN to destroy such a classic vehicle:
Probably set up a road course in there.
That would be extremely sick if he hit his relative's crypt.
The Laguna Sleepah? The Dirt Nap 500? The Pine Pontiac Derby?
He should have counted to 10. Maybe he and his car would still be around.
Cool stuff like that never happens at the funerals I go to.
