this is one of those cases where the public prosecutor needs to step aside and bring in a private attorney as a special prosecutor."

Ok Susan, do you want the job by any chance?

Susan Estrich is an honest and reliable protector of women who have been sexually harassed or abused. Just ask Juanita or Kathleen Wiley or -- oh -- wait, er, nevermind. :-(

The only way all sides will ever be convinced that this case has been handled fairly is if someone other than Mike Nifong handles it. The defendants deserve that; the accuser deserves that; and most important, the people deserve that.

Let Nifong pick the prosecutor; if his handpicked choice believes there is no case, or no case against one or more of the defendants Nifong has indicted, then so be it. Nifong should have no reason to complain if his own choice disagrees with him.

I agree partially with Susan. We need a special prosecutor to investigate Mike Nifong's abuse of the prerogatives of his office.

NiFong will let this go to trial which will simply be a dump on the judge. The defense will file a motion to dismiss on a preponderence of evidence and NiFong will walk away. He's put all the "rich folks" through a lot of trouble and that's just what he wanted and drove the blacks to the polls. He had nothing to lose.

After all, who in the world ever heard of NiFong before this happened except the locals.

I'm wondering what has happened to the escort business and why there has been no reporting on this.

Susan is swatting at gnats -- as in "diverting" attention away from the actual facts at hand in her desires to keep the feminist "issues" alive. It's a red-herring article, IMHO; best left to those legal "academic communities" and NOT foxnews. This is not news. It's an asidem "argument".

Police seek man who failed to appear in court

DURHAM -- Wherever drugs are, violent crime will follow, according to Cpl. David Addison of Durham CrimeStoppers. So it follows, Addison said, that alleged drug dealer Anthony Wayne Mangum, is a pretty violent guy.

Mangum, 36, is wanted on multiple charges of failing to appear in court where he is to face a slew of drug charges including eight separate counts of trafficking cocaine.

Drugs, Addison said, are not Mangum's only problem with the law.

In 2005 Mangum assaulted a six-months-pregnant woman. According to warrants, Mangum grabbed the woman by the hair and flung her across a bed causing her to fall to the floor. He then allegedly hit her in the face several times. A magistrate noted Mangum had been charged with identical crimes just months earlier.

In fact, Mangum has been charged with assault on a female at least seven times. He also has charges pending in Superior Criminal Court stemming from an assault with a deadly weapon. The victim in that case was later murdered, according to court records.

On Feb. 9, the police department's Special Operations Division raided a residence at 1305 Liberty St., where Mangum and a woman had allegedly set up an operation to deal large amounts of crack and powder cocaine. The raid yielded two ounces of cocaine, according to Major Lee Russ, who was heading the Special Operations Division at the time of the raid.

Mangum was arrested and charged with eight counts of trafficking as well as maintaining a dwelling for the purpose of selling a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, two counts of selling cocaine and two counts of possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine.

He was released on bond, according to court records, but never went to court for his March 9 first appearance.

Addison believes Mangum skipped town because he feared the consequences of his latest criminal charges.

"If found guilty, Mr. Mangum would spend a long time away from home, so he fled," Addison said.

Even if Mangum is no longer in Durham, Addison thinks he still has ties to the Bull City.

"Someone who is in contact with him would know where he's at and they can remain anonymous and get money for that information," Addison said.

Anyone who knows Mangum's whereabouts is asked to call 911 immediately...

We need a special prosecutor to investigate Mike Nifong's abuse of the prerogatives of his office.

And all the police and local officals in Durahm.

Could this be a relative of Crystals? Could the DA be trying to pressure her?

OTOH maybe Crystal is thinking about running away. The newspaper article is a warning: If you run away we'll have articles like this in the paper about you.

OTOH it could be a warning from the defense lawyers: If you continue with your allegations we'll have articles like this in the paper.

Duke to name new lacrosse coach

Duke University president Richard Brodhead is scheduled to hold a press conference today at 2 p.m. to discuss the future of the men's lacrosse program.

As reported Friday by the Long Island, N.Y., newspaper Newsday, Brodhead is expected to announce the revival of the team for next season, with Duke assistant Kevin Cassese serving as interim head coach.

Brodhead will be accompanied at the press conference by Robert Steel, the chairman of Duke's Board of Trustees; Daniel Blue, executive committee member of Duke's Board of Trustees; Duke athletics director Joe Alleva; and Duke Athletic Council chairwoman Kathleen Smith.

(snip)

"Brodhead will be accompanied at the press conference by Robert Steel, the chairman of Duke's Board of Trustees; Daniel Blue, executive committee member of Duke's Board of Trustees; Duke athletics director Joe Alleva; and Duke Athletic Council chairwoman Kathleen Smith."

And all these people will apologize to the former coach, the team, and Duke students and alumni, for rushing to judgment and demonizing their own students.
(just dreaming. . .)

"I'm wondering what has happened to the escort business and why there has been no reporting on this."

Because they're too busy falsely reporting that she's a dancer, mother, and fine student....with no criminal record. Such a fine, upstanding citizen, isn't she? She even votes, so much that she's registered (Democrat) at two different addresses.

Oh dear...I had better leave. My B/P is rising!
