To: Hi Heels
Say, that makes me wonder what might happen if some nutball decided to climb into the gay penguin enclosure.

This guys name wasn't Daniel.
To: Hi Heels
Now, THAT'S a great animal act. Yeah, but he can only do it once.
To: presidio9
On the flip side of this story that isn't being told, the lioness had previously proclaimed "If God exists, he'll give me a big yummy live meal."

"Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God." It seems this guy stopped at the Book of Daniel, he should have at least read into the New Testament a little.

It is only Biblical in the sense he was delusional and perhaps thought himself Daniel..

Yup!
Exod.17:2,7
[2] Wherefore the people did chide with Moses, and said, Give us water that we may drink. And Moses said unto them, Why chide ye with me? wherefore do ye tempt the LORD?
[7] And he called the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because of the chiding of the children of Israel, and because they tempted the LORD, saying, Is the LORD among us, or not?
Deut.6:16
[16] Ye shall not tempt the LORD your God, as ye tempted him in Massah.
Matt.4:7
[7] Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
Luke.4:12-13
[12] And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
[13] And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a season.
ETC.
Some people refuse to GET IT!

"You shall not put the Lord your God to the test." Deuteronomy 6:16.
THAT says it most succinctly.

He might have lived a bit longer if he had waited 30 minutes after the lions had been fed.
You know what they say: Timing is everything.

>Would it have been a *good* parlor trick if the lion had ignored him?
>Well, assuming this guy was actually a "Bible thumper" (the "if God exists" caveat seems to argue otherwise), do you think he *wasn't* crazy for getting up close and personal with a big hungry predator?
Actually, I'm just miffed that he would use God as an "excuse" for his foolishness. I guess the bigger question is whether he thought he'd emerge unscathed. Something we'll never know.

'God will save me, if he exists'
I don't think when Daniel was lowered into the lion's den he mentioned the part about God saving him "if He exists.."

Reminds me of a story I heard from my pastor:
A devout woman lived alone in a riverside house. A strong hurricane approached, and the sheriff knocked on her door, urging her to evacuate. "I am going to be fine," she said, "The Lord will protect me." The river rose until the entire first floor of her house was under water. The woman was forced to flee to the 2nd floor. A man in a boat came to the window and offered to take her away. "I am going to be fine," she said, "The Lord will protect me."
Later on, the level of the water rose until it covered her house, leaving her stranded on her rooftop. A helicopter came by and offered to lift her to safety. "I am going to be fine," she said, "The Lord will protect me."
Eventually, the waters swept her away and she drowned. In heaven, the woman was very angry at God for not rescuing her. God replied "I sent you the sheriff, a boat and finally a helicopter, what more did you want?"

As I recall, the Christians didn't fare too well then, either.
