Cvengr, you rock
You're right, that's exactly it. The 25 degree beer is too cold for the gas to escape, so when opened it remains a liquid. The sweet spot then is between that point, and the temp where the beer will freeze into a solid block. Time to lower the temperature of the fridge.
Thanks again

Sure does
Are the 25 degree and 28 degree beers opened under the same humidity/dew point conditions?
Yep, and I think I got this figured out.

Cut the beer with some Wild Turkey... the 101. You and the fridge should be good to go on Pluto.

Actually, the best panther piss is derived from said panther having a healthy meal of fat weasels and white rabbits.

The freezing point depression is mostly dependant on the alcohol content. It is less effected by the sugar and CO2 content of the beer. The alcohol content drops it ~2.2oF and the sugar<0.7oF and CO2 drops it ~1.4oF. As ice crystals form, even in the can, the solute concentriton goes up and depresses the freezing point of the remaining solution futher.

Don't forget that you can chill other beers even colder, because they contain less water.

"When liquid freezes it increases in size so..."
Because I'm a nerd, I will take issue with that statement. Actually water is one of only a few liquids that increase in volume when it freezes. It is truly unique.

To get even more nerdy water will shrink in volume as it gets close to its freezing temp, but at around 4 degrees Celsius this stops and it then expands until it hits the freezing point.

Beer comments aside, I suspect that the temperature readings are not accurate. If it freezes at 28 degrees it will certainly freeze at 25 degrees.

I'm playing with the thermostat to see how cold I can get the beer before it freezes Thermostats are for wimps. Try a throttle next time!

The MacAndrews product line has a similar label on several products, but the Pale Ale and Stout are probably easier to find. The Pale Ale has a brown bottle cap, while the Scotch Ale has a Green cap. Tastes as smooth after 2 pints as the first, hot or cold.
