Often I think that both men and women pretend a lot and often make a pretense of moving on quickly in order to show the ex partner that they are strong and he/she is not going to affect how they conduct their life and are determined not to show that they have been hurt.

IMHO it is often why these rebound relationships rarely work though they can develop into long life friendships when both parties realise that in fact it was not an partner they wanted but an intimate platonic male/female relationship to help in the understanding/healing process.
