In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
pellucid \puh-LOO-sid\ adjective
1. admitting maximum passage of light without diffusion or distortion *
2. reflecting light evenly from all surfaces
3. easy to understand
* Indicates the sense illustrated in the example sentence.
Example sentence:
The coastal waters were clean and pellucid, allowing us to easily identify the marine life on the ocean floor.
Did you know?
"Pellucid" ultimately derives from the Latin "lucçre" ("to shine"), which in turn contains the root "luc-" ("light"). "Pellucid" is formed from "per" ("through") plus "lucidus" ("lucid, clear"). "Pellucid" has many shining relatives in English. Among the offspring of "lucçre" are "translucent" (essentially, "clear enough to allow light to pass through"), "elucidate" ("to make clear, explain"), "lucent" ("luminous" or "clear"), and of course "lucid" itself (which can mean "shining," "mentally sound," or "easily understood"). Another related word is "Lucifer" (literally, "light-bearer"). Other relativessuch as "lackluster" ("lacking brightness"), "illustrate" (originally, "to make bright"), and "lustrous" ("shining" or "radiant")trace from the related verb "lustrare" ("to brighten"). Clearly, "pellucid" is just one of a family of brilliant terms.
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

Our Suns and D-Backs were quite pellucid last evening. Sorry, Vastie, for your Mavericks. But we whomped everyone's behind. Yeeeeeee-haaaaaaaaw.
It's going to be a pellucid day outside (102), so I better get the outdoors things done before I broil. LOL!
Pelosid -
1. Generating the maximum amount of heat with a great degree of distortion.
2. Highly reflective, i.e. the skin, due to the over-application of Botox.
probably wouldn't be a bad idea... ; )
Yes, my Mavs sucked last night. Don't count on Dirk having another pathetic night like last night again though. His 11 points were 20 points less than his norm.
Ain't that the truth about Nancy. You don't know what the woman is going to say about anything. She is the essence of pellucidity. That's it. Nancy Pellucidity.
that is as scary looking as any horror flick makeup job....

BTW, how's your Croquette doing?
thanks! that never fails to cheer me immeasurably : )
I see someone is already kissing up to the teach today. LOL!
Oh, I used to love Sid Caesar in his funny sketches. Great way of using the WFTD, Truthie!
Good morning, Caveman!
Maybe TIVO will be coming to the Liberty household. Maybe.
