One of the bikes introduced by Triumph last week is the Scrambler 900. This is a production model that will be available in the U.S. in Spring of 2006 at an U.S. MSRP of $7,999.
Featuring a version of Triumph's 865cc, air-cooled parallel twin motor, the Scrambler is one of Triumph's coolest looking retro models yet. I had the chance to see this bike in person, and it would definitely make our older readers drool thinking about the Triumph Bonneville era -- when Steve McQueen and others used a bike like this both on the road and in the dirt. Of course, all the retro styling comes with the modern DOHC, eight-valve engine, as well as modern disc brakes and suspension parts. One of the interesting design elements that caught my eye right away is the use of handlebars that look like they came straight off a dirt bike. This should make for a relaxed riding position, as well as plenty of leverage to throw the bike into corners.
Obviously, this is not the bike for the rider looking for cutting edge performance. This is for the rider looking for capable performance coupled with distinctive Triumph-retro style. Add to that the character of the parallel twin utilizing a 270 degree crank, and you have the potential for a rider experience that is relatively rare these days.
As it does with its other models, Triumph will support the Scrambler with plenty of accessories, including a bash plate, headlamp grill, number plates, tachometer (the bike comes stock with a speedometer only), and a single seat with rack. The production machine will be available in the pictured Tornado Red/White color scheme, as well as a Caspian Blue/White option.

It looks neat, sounds tough and all, but no way do I want that much hot metal up against my leg. I grew up riding dirt bikes and have the scars on my legs to prove it.
Next to the Scrambler was a Bonneville that the salesman said she'd make me a deal on - a demo with only 19 miles on it! No, thanks on that one too. Only 19 miles and the pipes are already badly blued. Yeah, the salesman said, there's a problem Triumph has with overheating due to too-lean mixture. EPA laws and such, yadda yadda...
I left empty-handed, of course.

Not like they had a choice, my '73 was last right shifter & I still hate myself for selling it.

Note: recently in UK and tried to find a source for parts to restore a couple of mid '60 Brits...
they are importing used parts from the US.
(anyone knowing an affordable restoration place is invited to offer suggestions)
All chromed steel pipes blue (unless they are really thick).
Stainless on the other hand will turn a soft gold.

Back in the 1960's it was middlin'-common in our crowd to pick out the folks who rode high-pipe Trumps or Beezers out of a bunch of bikers from the leather leg guard frequently sewn up on the inside of the thigh/knee/calf of the rider's leg on the side the pipes were on.
Nowadays, I'm sure some high-tech Nomex nylon leg guard will be developed, attached by space-age elastic straps with Velcro fasteners and adjustments.
But the old shoefixer who used to stich the leg guards on my blue jeans is still alive and kicking, semiretired but still passing the days away tending the flowers in front of his still-in-business shoe fixit shop. And I can't wait to pull up to his place on a new Triumph Scrambler with a new pair of Jeans and a paper pattern of what I need done. I'm betting he still remembers too.

You can get a mirror or two from your friendly local dentist, or his supplier. The stainless ones are realitively weather and vibration proof.
Some automotive parts suppliers even stock 'em for reading serial numbers on the backs of dashboard-mounted gauges and equipment.
