Believe it or not, the only thing I did to that cover was take off the word balloons. Superman was supposed to be revealing his secret identity to the boy, and the boy didn't believe him. I have trouble believing the other implications were accidental.

Have you actually read Wertham's book? It reads like a leftist manifesto.

His whole crusade was "for the children," after all.

Well, I haven't read many comics since the early 70s, when all popular culture went to Hell, and they priced themselves out the range I was willing to pay for trivial amusement. But I do remember the Crisis sequence. It was too important to miss hearing about it even if I didn't bother to read it.

Still, there seems to be a whole new breed of comic writers and illustrators out there that are determined to force their views on everyone. First Rawhide Kid, now Batwoman, and that terrible Superman cover. I think I agree with you. It wasn't accidental

DC did a rediculous story line where Lex Luthor became president during Bush's firs term...the message DC was trying to send was unmistakable

Your timeline is a little off. The facts don't fit.

Luthor was elected in a book that went on sale in November, 2000. It was cover-dated January 2001, but the cover date on comics is two months after it hits the shelves.

Besides, such a storyline would have to be in the works for months. They couldn't possibly have had any such "message", unmistakable or otherwise.

At the time the writers started, they couldn't have known W would be elected. At the time the book was printed and shipped to retailers, they couldn't have known W would be elected.

Heck, when the book first went on sale, the election was still in dispute. DC could well have been sending a "message" about algore, for all they knew.
