Actually, Catwoman just had a kid in the comics. And no one's seen a Captain Turkey Baster running around.

Lipstick lesbians also are marketed to appeal to heterosexual males who enjoy seeing women like this. e.g. "The L-word", "Cinemax after dark"

Not to be confused with pomosexual women, women who pretend to have gay tendencies to appear chic.

Towards the end of the Kyle Rayner run of Green Lantern, his ring ended up going to his gay friend. I was shocked. In the next issue there wasnt even a mention of this, like it never happended. Next thing you know the series ends.

I thought that might be what longtermmemmory was talking about, but that's not quite what happened.

No "incarnation" of Green Lantern was never gay. Kyle might have given a ring to his gay friend, but plenty of Lanterns have given rings to their friends. Not the same thing at all.

As for the plotline being abandoned, they did that with a lot of Kyle's plotlines. His book floundered for years before they cancelled it.

Kyle might have given a ring to his gay friend,

But then GOP took over and they couldn't be married.

Yeah, that's my take on it, too. All this PC anti-gay stuff is silly.

Comics are marketed almost exclusively to males aged 14-30.

And we *love* lipstick lesbians. :-) It doesn't make any sense, sure. The reality does not equal the fantasy. And most women, my wife included, just don't get why. But the vast majority of hetero guys are pro-"lipstick lesbians".

Batwoman and Catwoman in a catfight? And maybe some clothes get torn off?

Now that is entertainment!

Okay, I'll admit I'm out of the loop on "lipstick" lesbians. What distinguishes "them" from the regular, run-of-the-mill lesibans?

About 310 pounds :-)

Her alter ego is probably a carpenter.

Or perhaps a carpeter, or a rug cleaner.

Words fail me on this. Really, it's only a matter of time before Wonder Woman lectures on the good of abortion, or Superman endorsing Democratic candidates (in fact, DC did a rediculous story line where Lex Luthor became president during Bush's firs term...the message DC was trying to send was unmistakable). DC already did an issue of Batman were gun owners were all evil racists. DC editors and writers (most of which live in NYC) have apparently made the decision alienate readers not in their political spectrum. I hope it comes back to haunt them when Superman Returns hits the theaters, and needs to at least make back the $300 million it took to film it. Money talks, and it's the only thing that will make DC listen.

If DC-Time-Life-Warner-Turner were being "honest" or "responding to market forces" they would have made Batman and Robin gay or Wonder Woman a lez.

Dr. Frederic Wertham suspected the Dynamic Duo's sexual proclivities back in the 1940s (and wrote about them in his book Seduction of the Innocent in the 1950s). I know some pointed out the sexual (bondage, phallic imagery and other) angles of 1940s Wonder Woman comics.

But I guess that is too obvious and too hard to distance themselves from using yet another character reboot (which will happen no doubt some time in the future). So they re-use a character who exists primarily to protect a name from use by other companies (each incarnation bearing little resemblance to the last).
