I read the first issue of 52, and I think there was a Muslim. I know little about the DC Universe, so I don't know who the superpowered guy was--I think he was a Middle Easterner--but he saw a Muslim suicide bomber in a crowd of people, so he pulled him up into the air by one arm (which ripped his arm off) and threw him high enough to explode away from the crowd. That was kind of cool.

I think maybe you're referring to this guy, directly below... yes?

If so: that's Black Adam, a sort of muddled hero/villain-type character; Egyptian, not Muslim. :)

The gay Rawhide Kid was a very limited thing. Marvel is back to selling the classic '60s Rawhide Kid in his own Masterworks volume. There was a limited series before the gay limited series that actually sounds kind of interesting. It attempted to put the character in a more historically-accurate light.

As for the Guardians, IIRC, they all contracted the virus through the bite of an AIDS-infected vampire. Now, I'm not up on the current numbers from the CDC, but I'm pretty sure that "vampire bite" ranks pretty low on the "cause of infection" list. (None of them ending up dying from it anyway. The powers of one burned it out of her system, a second conventiently never got any symptoms, and the third blew herself up during an alien invasion. Still profoundly idiotic though.)
