This is an incredibly cruel disease. Fortunately, there are now drugs that can buy a couple more years of preventing the worst affects, but they only last so long.

She was touted as the most beautiful woman in the world at one time. Long live Debbie Reynolds.

This was one of the toughest things my spouse and I ever had to do. We wanted so badly to care for my mother to the end. Sometimes, things are above your abilities.

She may be the most beautiful woman who's ever lived.
How sad. I'll say a prayer for her.

I wouldn't say "POOR LADY"...she's had a wonderful and fascinating life. She lived it big and she lived it full. She was a broad when it wasn't COOL to be one.

Have my FIL in my home with the same. It's an incremental thing; and sone days are diamonds. Some days are stones.
Key is that Mr Edward is still in the home he has lived in for 15 years. Hope Liz has that same continuity

We are approaching the very same decision. I hope this thread encourages folks who ARE doing all they can to keep their old folks at home. But, time comes......

Thanks for the encouragement. I've thought about looking for a support group. Maybe I really should.

I know what you went through making the decision to put your mother in a home. I lay awake at night agonizing over that inevitable day. I don't want to do it.
My brothers and sisters have left all the decision making to me. They will support whatever I decide.

I feel for your husband. My mother hasn't forgotten anybody but she has it in her head that one of my sisters is greedy and after her money. It's totally untrue but she is really holding a grudge (for nothing) and can't be reasoned with.
It hurts my sister but she understands my mother isn't in her right mind.

My mother takes Namenda which helps a little. She was on Aricept also but that made her worse.

God bless her. My grandma had Alzheimer's... such a terrible disease- to rob someone of their most previous memories.
