He had work done on his cartilage. He had problems with cartilage breaking up in his knee area and causing massive swelling and massive pain. Pieces of cartilage were floating all around (not to gross you out or anything…)
Not at all, I had the same thing on my right knee, though mine was a 'bucket handle tear'. The doctor said that some people's can degenerate, whereas mine was just torn.
I don't know when it happened (the tear), but I remember when it shifted. We were at a conference, and the next morning I couldn't put any weight on it at all. Some beers put that fire out that night though :-)
They scoped it, and it was fine. I was walking on it without crutches the next day, and skied on it ~70 days that winter. Then again, I didn't have someone telling me not to ;-)
