Time for a new FreeRepublic folding@home thread.

Our FreeRepublic team of 337 members comprised primarily of Free Republic members in good standing have banded together to donate their excess CPU cycles to a worthy cause. Via distributed computing, millions of computers around the world, contribute directly to scientific research, in the quest for a greater understanding of diseases such as Alzheimer's, Cancer, and Mad Cow (BSE).

Currently, the team is in 103th place (with 988 active CPUs - 36,400 completed Work Units and more than 6,4 million points).

This is an entirely voluntary program, and if you want to learn more, please see the links posted below (or read one of the previous 17 folding threads)

DUmmies continue to fold at their usual rate (approx. 400,000 points/month).

They're in the Top 250 already.

Am I doing something wrong? I have a P4 3+ Ghz processor, 1GB+ RAM, etc. How long should it take to process a unit?

Depending on the size of the WU, it could take anywhere from 1-6 days.

OK, good, this one is 50000 frames and it is taking forever, LOL. I thought there must be some setting I had wrong, but guess not!

You should check the work unit status file and make sure that the folding program is using code optimizations. If a work unit gets shutdown for non-normal reasons (e.g. power failure), it may need to be restarted twice to get it using the optimizations.

Looks like tomorrow evening we should be able to chant "We're Number 1!(hundred), We're Number 1!(hundred)".

That'll be fun.

Ok, this pisses me off. When I click on team summary on the overclockers stats page, do you realize, that we are all the way at the bottom, of page 1. Position is EVERYTHING...

C'mon people, what's WRONG with you? :-)

Just kiddin'....... CONGRATS to everyone who contributed, and continues to contribute. From 1500 to 100, in 5 months. Simply awesome.

I've been out of town for three days. I'm sitting in an airport and I just checked my stats and saw that my last work unit was completed yesterday. I was hoping to have more than 10 work units done by now. It could be that the computer has hung up again after completing a unit. When I get home tonight I'll reboot the program if necessary.
