Taylor Hicks' Biggest Fan? (Condi)

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice took time out from matters of war and peace to catch this week's finale of American Idol. Unlike many adults who claim they watch the show only because their kids commandeer the TV, Condi is an unabashed fan.

Rice was rooting for fellow Birmingham native Taylor Hicks and will soon send him a congratulatory letter, says a State Department official. The Alabama connection helps explain why she has long been glued to the show: last year's runner-up Bo Bice is also a 'Bama boy, as was the winner of the second Idol competition, Ruben Studdard. But Condi is also part of nationwide Idolmania, as Tuesday night's competition drew some 32 million viewers — the biggest audience of the show's five seasons.

According to the State Department official, Idol isn't the only junk food on Condi's TV diet. She also watches Law & Order and was a fan of The Bernie Mac Show before its cancellation. But while there are no plans at the moment for a Condi-Taylor duet, Idol fans cast a total of 63.4 million votes Tuesday night — which host Ryan Seacrest pointed out was "more than any President in the history of our country has ever received." And since 35% of American Idol fans believe the votes cast in the singing competition count as much or more than in a Presidential election, maybe those itching for Condi to run in '08 will try to get her a guest appearance on the show.

While they didn't win the crown, North Carolina had 3 ontestants to reach the final 12....Chris, Bucky, and Kelly.

McPhee has a beautiful voice, but she is more West Coast....Taylor is what "I like about the South"...he has SOUL. LOL (I also really like Eliot and hope that his CDs go to the top of the charts.)

That is neat! :) One of the FOX producers locally said that there is a possibility that AI will hold auditions in B'ham next season. If true, that would be good. There are several places where Ruben, Bo and Taylor and many others perform during weekend jam sessions. Well, Ruben, Bo and Taylor did perform there, but no more. :(

It could have gone alot of different ways. There were about 5 or 6 that were roughly equal in talent. The fat black gal had the voice. So did the small black gal, but chose some bad songs. The bald guy could belt it out, but he was a one note Johnny. And then Elliott was pretty good with the right material.

Some how I get the feeling that Taylor will always want to come to town and just jam...he is just eccentric enough to NOT want to be a "corporate robot" singer...

I bet he will want to go home and "hang out"...

Just popped right into my head and my fingers went flyin...anything would be better than all the ducks quacking up there in DC right now...I seriously think we need to start all over.

They are our rulers, not our servants, I'm afraid...very afraid

No sense in fearing 'em. We are pushing them in the right direction. Even ol Dubya has inched slowly towards the right side on immigration. And I plan to burn the ears of the House members to keep them strong.

Very, very, VERY cool, Jonnie. Thanks for the ping. If Idol keeps growing, next thing we know it will be obligatory for presidents to invite the winners to the WH.

Well, that's cool! I can see a duet with her wearing her Matrix outfit!

Now, I should have thought of this, but I was too slack-jawed at Toni Braxton's lack of class and vocal chops last night, but I found this on an AI/Clay blog:

What the heck was Toni Braxton doing? Was that singing or grunting? And did a pregnant person choose to have the Braxton-Hicks duet?? If you've been pregnant, you know what I mean!

Braxton-Hicks contractions - someone had some fun with them!

Well, I'm not thinking of myself really, just my kids and I hope you're right.

But its times like these where it makes sense why people are more interested in AMERICAN IDOL. Folks have more control over that than our US govt. At least you can vote for your favorite guy multiple times, who then wins after you are sure your 65 votes helped him over the top, LOL
