Pit bulls shot to death after attack on cow (sad picture of mother cow, protecting it's calf)

Cecil Wallace awoke about 4:30 a.m. Saturday to the bawling of cows and the howling of dogs. The Buford farmer grabbed his shotgun and went running out the back door.

His son and next-door neighbor, Kenneth Wallace, also jarred awake — also carrying a shotgun — joined him. Father and son ran toward the pasture...

...Reaching the pasture, the Wallaces saw a cow, bloodied and torn, its calf standing nearby. As they approached the animal, according to reports, two dogs came running towards them.

Kenneth Wallace raised his 12-gauge. Boom! The larger dog hit the dirt, howling. Wallace fired again, and the dog was quiet.

The female kept coming. Kenneth Wallace fired a third time, the blast echoing along the darkened reaches of Bart Johnson Road.

The Wallaces dragged the dogs' bodies aside and tended to the cow, Betsy. She looked bad — right ear torn off, the left shredded like paper. Her nose was ripped and torn. Two teeth were knocked loose. Not long after daybreak, Cecil Wallace took Betsy to a Cumming veterinarian, who prescribed painkillers and antibiotics for the Angus/Hereford cross.

"She's still in bad shape," Cecil Wallace, 73, said Tuesday. "She tries to eat, but she can't; her mouth's too sore."

Animal control officers have cited one dog owner with failing to have the animal on a leash.. They also charged the owner with violating the county's vicious-animal ordinance, which requires owners of a dangerous dog or cat to have it muzzled whenever the animal is off the owner's property.

Meghan Martin, who lives near the Wallaces, said she is the owner whom officers cited...p>

When I went to sleep, my dog was in bed with me," she said. A roommate let out her dog, plus a friend's pit bull, Martin said...

The UKC is the registering organization that recognizes APBT's and originally wouldn't give papers unless the dog had 3 documented kills.

Three documented kills?

Rabbits, foxes, cows, Sopwith Camels?

There are far bigger problems confronting children than dogs. The following quote is for 2003 alone:
"Approximately 1,500 child deaths were related to abuse or neglect."

You seem more concerned with taking well-behaved dogs off responsible pet owners than doing something that will help far more children.

Do you have to resort to abuse? I suggest that neither I nor any of the other posters opposed to banning specific breeds of dogs have ever owned a dog that has harmed anyone. To accuse someone of pedophilia because they are opposed to governments seizing well-behaved pets is not only abusive, it is sick.

And where is the evidence that a pit bull was responsible? I suggest another example of unsubstantiated anti-dog propaganda.

The little girl was in her own yard.

Should I animate it?

We are talking about pitbulls and the menace that they are. Don't change the subject.

You obviously hate dogs and are hellbent on destroying animals that have never hurt you or anybody else so just get lost.

You can keep trying to change the subject if you want but (1) as soon as I posted irrefutable horror of your position, you starting reaching for answers. It is just like someone that is for abortion being confronted with a picture of a baby in the womb - you can't handle the reality of your position.

The reality is that the dog that mauled that girl was someone's pet that thought it would never do such a thing.

You want me to have more compasion for someone's right to own a known vicious breed than for that little girl. No way. Can't do it and can not understand how you can.

At least the photograph is genuine, not like the doctored photographs of the alleged pit-bull victim below.

1). You could not refute my point so you change the subject.

2). When you are caught changing the subject, you then suggest that I should get out of the thread.

3). I will not reply to you anymore, if that is what you mean. But, you have to let these words, my words here, be the last word.

I knew you could not let me have the last word. It is a darn good thing we are not married. The fights would go on for days. You get the dog house.

OK, good night.

I imagine that he could post a victim that was hit by an SUV too, those should be banned also.

Henry, the (vicious) Bearded Collie shown here in 'attack mode' on the left, we had to get rid of because he was a 'vicious dog'.

My Mother had him & Charlie (right) playing in a tennis court when a guy with a dog walked by. Henry jumped on the gate, it opened and he got into a fight with the dog. The guys shorts were ripped, but we didn't know by which one. My Mom reimbursed him for his shorts, and his dog's trip to the vet for 'checkup'. He still filed a complaint, and the restrictions were well beyond absurd, so we had to find him a new home.

Perhaps we should have sued the city for faulty public facilities. I don't think that a tennis court gate should be able to be opened by a dog, after all.

My Mom used to buy into a lot of the 'pitbull & vicious spin'. Not anymore, after this.

And I'd be glad to share the dog house with an alleged pit bull!
