The Dixie Chicks' Natalie Maines apologized for disrespecting President Bush during a London concert in 2003--but not now.
"I don't feel that way anymore," Maines tells Time magazine. "I don't feel he is owed any respect whatsoever."
As war in Iraq loomed, Maines had said: "Just so you know, we're ashamed that the President of the United States is from Texas."
That led to death threats and a backlash from other country stars, including Toby Keith. It also stalled what until then had been the group's smashingly successful career.
With their new album, "Taking the Long Way," hitting stores today, fellow Chick Martie Maguire isn't exactly mending fences.
"I'd rather have a small following of really cool people who get it, who will grow with us as we grow and are fans for life, than people that have us in their five-disc changer with Reba McEntire and Toby Keith," Maguire says.
"We don't want those kinds of fans. They limit what you can do."
Well, his father was born in Iran and his mother in Germany.
Adrian was born in Massachusetts and and grew up in Pennsylvania.
The Left will rush out to embrace their new CD.Then it will die much like their careers.
He also played Chipper in the movie Top Gun and played Declan Dunn in Mysterious Ways which is where I remember him.
I remember at the time of the "I'm ashamed to be from Texas" remark that the press asked Adrian about his take on on the issue and he said something to the effec that he wanted to beat up the people who were criticizing his wife.
I can understand a man's desire to defend his wife's honor but he should have also set her aside and talked her out of opening her mouth again. If that conversation happened, it didn't work.
What's wrong with Toby Keith? He's way better than the Dixie Chicks anyway.
I wasn't implying he was an Iranian national in my post.
My boss's nephew worked for Sony in Nashville. According to him, no one at the label could stand them before all of this.
I was turned off when one of the chicks said to Dan Rather in a TV special a few years ago on the subject of Sony screwing them over in their contract: "I don't even have a million dollars in the bank!" Wah.
The Dixie Chicks used to provide pretty good cowgirl background music for my lasagna and chocolate souffles at Joey Tomato's Italian restaurant here in Dallas when they were a quartet, but unfortunately, they fired the woman who started the band and got too big for their britches (in Nat's case, literally). This arrogance is nothing new to those of us who've known them from the start. If you read up on their background, you'll see that they also slammed Dallas, claiming we hicks didn't appreciate their genius and they had to play on street corners (in fact, they were one of the top acts here, playing our best venues, including the main stage of the State Fair). Also, if you read the story of how they first met Natalie, she came into the room acting like a beeyotch and blew the other two off because she was younger than them and too hip and liberal to want to play that yucky country music that was so far beneath her. The more things change, the more they stay the same...
Too bad Joey Tomato's is closed now. It might be an appropriately-sized venue for their current fan base.
I can understand, and even applaud, his solidarity with his dum bulb wife. Even if he didn't agree, he most likely would gamely play along just to keep the acting jobs coming his way.
"We don't want those kinds of fans."
Looks like those Chicks have gotten what they want.
I understand. His heritage is part Iranian. I have no idea if he's a practicing Muslim or not.
(Just clarifying for those playing along.)
A modified version of the Grand Ole Opry was touring the Pacific Northwest. Last Friday I went to see this modified version featuring old-fashion country and western stars like Stonewall Jackson, Jean Sheppard, Little Jimmy Dickens and Doug Kershaw. These stars are in their 70s and 80s (Dickens announced he was 85). I could hardly believe that all of them could still belt out beautiful songs and play instruments so wonderfully well. For me, it was joy to be in the jam-packed room giving a standing ovation to these ageless and talented stars. I would recommend this show to any and all. When I think of upstarts Ditzy Hicks and then these timeless, talented professionals like Stonewall Jackson, Sheppard, Dickens and Kershaw who are really great performers and still perfecting themselves, I almost sigh in relief that country and western arena still has stars of this caliber. Another notable thing during the performances not one curse word nor off-color word was used. Sure, there was some allusion but not one offensive word was said by these great performers.
They'll be lucky to make the County Fair circuit, soon.

... or making much money these days.
"I'd rather have a small following of really cool people who get it,
Funny she would say that now - that's exactly what they had BEFORE NATALIE!!!
Sorry, all you get is a small group of anti-War rejects that can't stand your songs but think it's "brave" to stand up against Bushitler and buy your crap. On the bright side, your concerts can now be held inside your bus with room to spare.
Who cares?????????????
They already went under the knife in preperation for thier new "rock" album. Emily got a tummy tuck, and Natalie got all over liposuction.
I the store the other day I saw a man pointing to a Dixie Chick and commenting, that Natalie gal is as cute as a pug dog.
I guess they better do it while they can afford it.
