The Dixie Chicks' Natalie Maines apologized for disrespecting President Bush during a London concert in 2003--but not now.
"I don't feel that way anymore," Maines tells Time magazine. "I don't feel he is owed any respect whatsoever."
As war in Iraq loomed, Maines had said: "Just so you know, we're ashamed that the President of the United States is from Texas."
That led to death threats and a backlash from other country stars, including Toby Keith. It also stalled what until then had been the group's smashingly successful career.
With their new album, "Taking the Long Way," hitting stores today, fellow Chick Martie Maguire isn't exactly mending fences.
"I'd rather have a small following of really cool people who get it, who will grow with us as we grow and are fans for life, than people that have us in their five-disc changer with Reba McEntire and Toby Keith," Maguire says.
"We don't want those kinds of fans. They limit what you can do."
Dont go way mad! Just GO AWAY!
In other words, she wants sycophants and acolytes. People with minds of their own need not apply.
And yet TIME has the Dixie Twits as a cover story! The MSM follows them into oblivion.
I spend a penny on them and I sure glad of that now.
You need to have fans, good luck with that attitude.
"really cool people who get it" = LILITH Fair
Those silly females...it's all about pride, IMHO. Their silly careers are DOA...
Is is usual for a label to release a "single" off a new album about a month before the album goes on sale. "Single" release means they sent it ot radio stations for air play. There are no single cuts for sale in stores during this period. If that "single" is high on the air play charts the day the album goes on sale the first weeks album sales will be good.
On rare occasions when the first "single" release off the album tanks, the record company will release a second "single" from the album in hopes that the second cut will be doing well on the charts when the album is released for sale.
In this case the record company has released two "singles" off this latest Dixi Chicks album before the album went on sale, and both have bombed. Both cuts broke the charts in the 30s and 40s and then went down from there.
Yes, just like those fans of the Indigo Girls!!!!
Ya know, I feel the same way. I voted for the prez and I like him still. He still makes me want to shout "God Bless America" everytime he's makes a speech. Yet, I criticize when I think he's done wrong or going in the wrong direction. However, if a liberal, leftist spoiled demoncRAT dweeb starts nailing him then I get angrier than a bee-stung cow.
I can't count how many self-destructive people like Natalie Maines I have met in my life.
Her up and down weight and hot and cold behavior. I'm thinking manic depressive with eating disorder.
"Their silly careers are DOA..."
Unfortunately if their Manager and Accountants are worth a darn, their bank accounts are probably doing just fine.
"Chick Martie Maguire isn't exactly mending fences."
So,its not just Maines opinion and the other 2 following.
Yup...and probably having a kid added to her neurosis. Anyone who would tear down a successful person in their own profession in order to bolster their own dumb contentions has definite mental disorders, I'm sorry...it makes no sense.
something tells me that the arthouse queers at liberal colleges like NYU and Berkley aren't going to get into listening to the Dixie Chicks, no matter how much they bash Bush.
Unless they change their name, start dressing like lesbos, and play alternative music.
This is a quote from the NY Time from Natalie that just shocked the kerfuffle out of me.
"We have video footage of this lady at one of the shows protesting, holding her 2-year-old son," Ms. Maines said. The woman commanded her son to shout along with an angry chant. "And I was just like, that's it right there. That's the moment that it's taught. She just taught her 2-year-old how to hate. And that broke my heart."
She does not see what she does as hate, but those who are against her hate. I'd personally like to ask Ms. Maines (she's married by the way, why the Ms.?) a question concerning 2-year olds and the people we are at war with. Jihadists use 2-year olds as bombs....is that hate? Or is that "choice"?
Anyone who gives them credit for being artists of any kind need some serious electroshock therapy and I would be glad to administer it myself.
They made a ton of money with their early success. I know the two backups are married with kids now. They can live the rest of their lives in total luxury if they don't blow through the money.
My guess is Maines will probably go solo and change music styles, try to sound more like Stevie Nicks or pop and shoot her mouth off even more about politics.
The other two, you'll never hear from again.

Good point, and women aren't supposed to be foolishly proud like that (that's reserved for men folk). Must be eating testosterone flakes for breakfast. If they're not careful, they'll be sprouting mustaches.
