Country radio nixes Dixie Chicks
NASHVILLLE, Tenn., May 22 (UPI) -- It appears the war U.S. country radio stations mounted against the politically outspoken Dixie Chicks has not abated in the least.
The band is promoting "Taking the Long Way," its first album since Natalie Maines told a London audience in 2003 she was ashamed to be from the same state as U.S. President George Bush. The comment sparked a radio boycott of the group's music.
Although the album hits stores Tuesday, the first two singles from the album are not getting widespread airplay, Billboard.com reported Monday.
The first single, "Not Ready to Make Nice," only peaked at No. 36 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart and the second single, "Everybody Knows," is moving downward after its peak at No. 48.
WKIS FM in Miami reported it pulled "Not Ready to Make Nice" due to listener complaints after only one week.
The program director at KUBL/KKAT in Salt Lake City told Billboard he was angered by its "self-indulgent and selfish lyrics."
Neither the Chicks or their label, Columbia Records, would speak to Billboard for its article.
Thank the WKIS team for rejecting the commie Dixie Chickens.....

These "chicks" need to spent the night at Tysons..
LOL. I just said the other day on a thread here that Natalie Maines even looks selfish and self-centered.
ping
Guess that the hype didn't work as well as the Chickens had hoped. BUWAHAHAHAHA.
Yeah, but they say they aren't a country act and put down the country audience (at least on 60 minutes), so they shouldn't care.
They've been "plucked and feathered" and I can't wait for them to implode and blame each oher for their abject failure to re-connect with their audience. Bye-bye bird brains!!!
Natalie Maines, "I'm a star so therefore I,m allowed to make all the stupid comments I want and everyone needs to pay attention to me because I,m a big mouth stupid star"
Shoot. Too bad it wasn't WKIX

I know this forum is not a fanclub for O'Reilly but he stated Maines basically dissed him to the NYT after he had what he thought was a decent discussion. She seems intent on pissing everyone off, even those who would give her a pass on her past actions.
Someone needs to tell the Chicks-Don't bite the hand that feeds you. When the Dixie Chicks careers are over(hopefully sooner than later)they'll probably blame it on the vast "rightwing conspiracy".
Maybe the Chicks are in the wrong venue. Maybe they should plan a tour of North Korea or Zimbabwe or Iran...somewhere like that.
WKIS-FM might consider including a "classic" hit with high rotation from the legendary Stonewall Jackson (his BIG hit, "Waterloo") and this wisely written tune:
"The Minute Men Are Turning In Their Graves"
They march in lines and carry signs protesters one and all
They'd rather go to prison than to heed their country's call
Get out of here get out of there let's have an end to war
I'm glad they weren't around to say get out of Valley Forge
The Minute Men are turning in their graves
Washington and Jefferson are crying tears of shame
To see these men who'd rather live as slaves
The Minute Men are turning in their graves
What's happened to our heritage what's happen to our pride
Since when do free Americans pull for the other side
Did we send food to Hitler's troops or praise the enemy
Did all our children die in vain defending liberty
The Minute Men are turning in their graves...
I can't condemn a man who feels that taking life is wrong
But I fail to understand a man that won't defend his home
Dear Lord I've got one little prayer I pray in years to come
Don't ever let those kind of people serve in Washington
The Minute Men are turning in their graves...
Oh the Minute Men are turning in their graves
Oh the Minute Men are turning in their graves
Well maybe Barbra will buy up all their non selling cds, and Madonna will let them open for her on her tour.
Or Bambino...(ducking)
I vote for Iran. The burqas would provide a nice makeover.
