It is not so much the movie (obvious fiction) as it is the new low that our society is reaching. Does anyone think that this movie would have been accepted in 1956 instead of 2006 ? There is always open season on christianity in this culture. There are millions of people going to see the movie this weekend. We assume that all of these people are smart enough to know that it is just fiction. But are they ? There are people who honestly believe that there was a 9/11 conspiracy. A JFK conspiracy. Elvis could still be living ! The world is spinning so fast right now. There is so much confusion on our planet currently. This poison in the blood stream of our culture is disgusting. and yes, it IS BLASPHEMY. Some of you may say "ahh, it is just a movie". Let me tell you that there are people who would let it factor into their view of christianity. Our society is full of dark things right now. I do not think this is good for christianity or the world.
According to the link I posted, worldwide it opened at $224 million. The site "claims" that is #2 after Star Wars III. I believe you are disputing this claim because most movies do not open worldwide on the same date and therefore $224 million is not #2.
I believe that is what you are saying. You could be correct however the #2 worldwide opening spot is what I got off www.drudgereport.com. The poster I was responding to asked how was it #2 because he said it was #13. I was just telling him that is where the #2 spot quote came from.
Now if you have different data that disputes this, I would be most appreciative if you could send me a link to it so that we can all understand what is the truth.
there have always been that trash, but as widely accepted in our society as it is now. Satan has pretty strong foot hold right now.
Sue... long ago the church debated the divinity of Jesus. The problem they had was different passages said different things about the status of Jesus. John 10:30 says, "I and the Father are One" where in Mark 10:18 says, "And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? There is none good but one, that is, God."
Here is a nice article regarding this from Christianity Today: http://www.christianitytoday.com/ch/2005/001/7.18.html
I keep hearing this. And it is invariably supported with some unverifiable anecdote about an unnamed movie-goer or reader of the novel who supposedly proclaims that the Da Vinci Code is 100%, honest-to-goodness, gospel truth. Heck, even conveniently unnamed missionaries and priests have supposedly lost their faith as a consequence of the Da Vinci Code.
I'm calling hogwash on these apocryphal concoctions. Maybe, just maybe, there is some half-literate, hopeless moron out there who truly does believe, despite all the obvious evidence to the contrary, that the Da Vinci Code is not fiction. But by golly somebody ought to come up with some real evidence that this person actually exists.
You even contend that "There are people on this forum who seem to buy into the fiction, and defend the whacky conspiracies as the gospel truth."
Who? I've never seen a post even remotely indicating this.
I don't see what is disgusting about it....
Again, it wouldn't make him any less holy, not one iota less God, just a lot more accessable for someone like me (and those I know like me).
Otherwise, it's just "nice religion, let me check on this one over here".
Jesus was only married to the church.
the bible tells the truth...
The church is a thing and a concept.
Secondly,
the bible was written by men who let their own bias and prejudices shape what was put in it and what was left out.
It leaves me cold for the most part.
alright then...whatever
"I think you should have put this in the religion threads so I wouldn't have encountered judgemental people."
is that a judgement?
"I have not read the book or seen the movie, but I'm very familiar with the plot line. I'll cut to the chase. DNA evidence negates the entire premise.
Now for the issue of Jesus and what he might think about this film or book. I think Jesus would always welcome an opportunity to have people look at Him, think about His time on earth, and discuss what it all meant.
This film is a woodpecker on the face of Mt. Rushmore. It will do no harm to Jesus or his legacy no matter what it does. IMHO."
What upsets me about the movie is that it wasn't a very well-made movie--I expected better from Ron Howard and Tom Hanks.
se_ohio_young_conservative, of course--for our own good, you see. We're just too stupid to be trusted with individual liberty, so we're just going to have to give up freedom "for our own good."
Even my Pastor would frown on that.
Ok whatever.
