Is seeing the DaVinci Code a sin?
Southern Nebraska Register ^

Could I have inadvertently committed a mortal sin by buying and reading The Da Vinci Code?

One cannot commit any sin “inadvertently.” A mistake cannot be a sin. Sin always is a deliberate act of one’s will. For a sin to be mortal or spiritually deadly, the matter involved has to be grave (or perceived to be grave), and ...

Here's a question from the Southern Nebraska Register pertaining to the DaVinci code. This is from the Lincoln Diocese. Bishop Bruskewitz makes it clear why Catholics should not see the DaVinci Code.

It may not be a sin but you're asking the wrong question..

Can you tell me how going to see it glorifies God?

THE

CLINTON

CODE

If you thought The DaVinci Code was shocking, you ain't heard nothing yet.  Everything the media taught you about the Clinton's is wrong.  The Clinton Code reveals that Bill did not rape Juanita Broaddrick, did not sexually harass Katherine Willey, and did not have improper relations with Paula Jones, Jennifer Flowers or even Monica Lewinski.  These were all a big cover up for Bill's real passion.....12-year old boys.

The Clinton Code takes you inside the secret society, the Sid Blums, a society dedicated to protecting the dark secrets of socialism and communism.  How the secret blood line of Marx, Lennin, and even Hitler all lead to a little girl named Hillary Rodham.  How the secret rituals of the Sid Blums concerning the shoes of Hillary Rodham lead to the firing of Dick Morris and to Dick's new role in infatuating the other side by giving bad advice and making predictions that never come true.  Also the book reveals the story behind the mysterious death of Vince Foster, and how the Clinton Body Count actually grossly underestimates the carnage left behind by the Clintons.

DISCLAIMER:  This book is not anti-anything. The Clinton Code is a novel and therefore a work of fiction. The artwork, architecture, documents, and secret rituals depicted in this novel all exist.  This disclaimer takes no stance about the theories discussed in this book.  This book serves only to open up discussion on these important topics.  In fact, I am a supporter of the Clintons.  If you ask what a Clinton supporter is, everyone will give you different answers.  To some to be a Clinton supporter, you must have voted for them.  To others, liking them is all it takes.  I prefer not to rigidly classify this personal concept, so to me being a Clinton supporter simply means to seek the truth out about these SOBs.

I think seeing "The DaVinci Code" is less dangerous to one's health than drawing pictures of Mohammed in Syria.

I always thought a sin was when a person is not doing the will of God. The reason Jesus couldn't sin was because He was always faithfully doing the will of the Father.

Jesus called some people some harsh names, flipped over some important peoples desks and possibly clocked some people with a billy club like thingy.

As my friend from Oklahoma used to say, "That boy wasn't spanked when he needed it. Now I gotta do what his Daddy should've done".

Imagine catching your CEO is stealing, walking into his office, flipping over his table and beating his lawyers out of the office with a club.

Most people think if they are doing "good", they are good. Only God is good. Thankfully, the true God is merciful and perfect in character, unlike the Muslim God.

Sheesh! It is a movie, folks. Fiction. If you hate it and you don't want anyone to see it, ignore it and don't give it any free publicity. The makers of the film know it is a stinker and they're relying upon all of the controversy and hype to bring in the ticket buyers. Protesting this film or otherwise calling attention to it will only fall into their plans. I suspect we'll have the same people upset about The Omen, a remake coming out on 6 June. Just because a film uses a religious setting doesn't mean that it is trying to subvert any religion.

By "mortal sin" if you mean will God refuse your sincere plea for forgiveness, the answer is no. If you sin, and sincerely repent, God will forgive you.

Is seeing the movie a sin? I honestly don't know. But God won't throw you into hell if you sincerely ask His forgiveness.

I don't like stuff like this, but I did read the book after it became clear that everyone I knew was. How are you going to combat Satan, if you look the other way? If the movie is true to the book, it gets more and more bizarre as it develops and is about as believable as Indiana Jones, ending, as always, with the Holy Grail not found.

Here! Here! Well said. National Treasure is fictional movie too. Can you imagine someone saying, "I never knew Nicolas Cage really found treasure and dispersed it to all the world's museums and poor!?" br>

PS. Note the paid Aquafina product placement

Is it a sin? Maybe not, but the movie is proof that prayer works because the church was praying the movie would be bad, and from the reviews coming in (from secular sources) their prayers have been answered.

Well, I did hear that the movie is a real stinker, entertainment wise.

I sometimes watch the Discovery/History/NG channels' documentaries which try in various ways to disprove the Bible, and find them to be preposterous.

I usually end up changing the channel out of boredom, since they seem to rely heavily on leftist "experts" whose word is somehow supposed to be taken more seriously than God's word.

Most times when there is a big uproar about a movie, it turns out not to be such a big deal.

Sorta like "The Day After Tomorrow"?

But then again this movies seems to mock and question Christian teachings & values. I have not seen it or read the book.

I wonder if this DaVinci Code thingy can be run on the Koran?
..wonder what secret messages that would turn up?
Oh, Can't do that, it might upset mulims worldwide.

Oh but no. Sin is not an act against our will, but HIS will. Sounds like a good way to excuse a lot of things just because we see nothing wrong with them.

That said, is it a sin to see the movie? I think another poster answered that by asking how it glorifies God. The DVC denies the divinity of Christ, claims He faked the crucifixion, ran off with Mary Magdalene. So it would seem to imply He apparently left His followers to be martyred for His sake. This little fairy tale attempts to strip away the very basic foundation of Christianity. It calls Jesus a fraud. I don't see anything glorifying about that.

But it doesn't look like it's going to matter much. The critics seem to hate it. And with the X men movie coming out next week, this one probably won't be around very long anyway.
