The more criticism is heaped on Nifong from "outside", the more those who live there will circle the wagons around him imo. I sensed that in Judge Stephens yesterday, who seemed to take umbrage at Osborn's worry that the DA wouldn't voluntarily do the right thing about discovery, and that the Durham PD might not handle the phone evidence carefully.

I think you are right. This case represents a threat to the whole Durham establishment. I have mentioned before on a related thread that there are eerie similarities to the Fells Acre School case in Massachusetts which ruined the lives of three innocent people, as a form of mass hysteria swept first the parents then the legal system. Kind of like Salem Witch trials. This is the danger unless some object 3rd parties get involved.
