DURHAM, N.C.—One of three Duke University lacrosse players charged with rape wants the case resolved in time for the next school year, his lawyer said in court yesterday. But the judge warned he will not fast-track the proceedings.

The case "is not going to jump ahead of the line and be handled any differently," Superior Court Judge Ronald L. Stephens said at a hearing for sophomore Reade Seligmann.

After the brief hearing, District Attorney Mike Nifong said he does not expect any trial to begin before next year.

From what I understand the "accused" showed up at the court with cashier's checks for the full amount.

Do you have an opinion about this NC statute as a reason for her to cry rape instead of be taken to the detox unit:

http://www.ncga.state.nc.us/EnactedLegislation/Statutes/HTML/BySection/Chapter_20/GS_20-17.1.html

At the time of the 2002 incident her license was already revoked. Her taxi spree kept it revoked another 4 years per NC DMV rules, which would include the night of the party.

I haven't been down I-85 since Thanksgiving. VaFarmer has been telling me that they closed down Dockside Dolls and that the signs are gone.

I haven't been up 85 since last Sept--

Oh well, I'll tell them the stories when we pass where the signs used to be, LOL!

I have no doubt she was driving with a revoked license. I have no doubt that she will never be charged.

I don't know about the interest, but if it goes to the county, that wouldn't surprise me. Even if it goes to the accused, it's not much.

If it goes to the county, it adds up.

Heck! I wouldn't turn down 4 percent of 1.2-million.

That means they had the cash, or someone else put it up, or they got a loan, maybe home equity loan.

Their families are heavily affected by the requirements of these charges. What would they do if they didn't have these assets?

How many of us would have to see our adult children sit in jail, unable to post the $400,000 bond? Nifong is detestable, one of the worst politicians I've ever seen. He disgusts me.

Nifong needs that money for lap dances with Kim and Crystal.

Maybe they borrowed Nifong's implant from him!?

Do I dare ask? To which implant are you referring? The brain, or the other organ?

Until now, I didn't think of Durham when I thought of corruption. No wonder they don't want to give these boys a speedy trial.

I went to college in Va. [Richmond] many years ago. I had a high school friend who went to Duke. I went down to see him many times. I lived in the Durham area right after graduation for about 6 months.

I did not view Durham as particularly corrupt back then. After grad school I lived in Baton Rouge and New Orleans in a very corupt state. I now live outside a town that has had its corruption issues. I worked in politics at one time in some not so corrupt areas and in some very corrupt areas. This case has in my mind moved Durham way way up the corruption list. And it does not have any redeeming tourist or visitor values like some of the corrupt big cities in the US.

Trust me, your very same "wish" has crossed my mind from time to time. I'd really rather have somebody she trashes sue the hell out of her and win a huge judgment.

NCCU to alter media rules

At one point, Saunders said, a reporter with a national magazine went table to table in the NCCU cafeteria, asking students if they knew the alleged victim, mentioning her name repeatedly.

Some members of the Durham City Council urged the body to take a formal vote of confidence in City Manager Patrick Baker at a meeting Thursday.

The proposal followed a challenging week for Baker. He was criticized publicly by defense attorneys for his close supervision of the Duke lacrosse rape investigation, and he was forced to accept the resignation of the city's new solid waste director after trash across the city went uncollected.
