Mary Cheney spanked Diane Rehm on NPR today

Mary Cheney was just on NPR's Diane Rehm Show, promoting her new book "Now It's My Turn".

She spanked Diane and the standard lib callers pretty darned good. Sounded like they just can't possibly fathom a conservative Republican gay person. She set them straight about her parent's investments going into a nonrevocable trust that goes to charity, about the 2004 election being about trust and national security and not about Republican misrepresentation, about her being a person speaking her own mind and not a glbt shrill, and other good stuff. She told a number of callers they were just wrong about things. And she left Rehm without words a few times, trying to deal with some truths. That's always priceless.

I doubt NPR will invite her back for any future segments.

I understand that, too, but it was a constructed social taboo.

The question I keep going back to is: How do we categorize behavior that opposes the very core, natural, relentless genetic program in all life -- to create more of itself?

We have a gay conservative talk show host in LA, Al Rantel, that is adamently against gay marriage, because he thinks the purpose of marriage is procreation or something. I don't agree with him, but there you have it. The only gay people have in common is to whom they are sexually attracted. Other than that, in my experience, they are as diverse as America itself, about everything.

Should we have a true Freeper "coming out" party? I agree with both of you.

The conservatives on this site that tend to tell others they aren't conservative enough, because we don't care who our neighbor is sleeping with, generally keep me away from these threads.

Although I feel, as a Christian, that homosexuality is a sin, it to me seems like one of those sins that is none of my business. As long as it is two consenting adults, I figure God will let them know in the afterlife if he approves or not. In fact, my state (Wisconsin) is one of the States that has the Gay Marriage Amendment on the ballot this November, and I truly don't want to vote for it. I probably will, only because I can't stand the thought of the liberals winning.

Lots of activities are medically harmful. Few would want to criminalize them all, which I think is what you are suggesting with respect to homosexual activity, at least medically harmful sexual activity.

I am actually quite pleased that this thread is proving that all Freepers don't feel as you do. I know that the Catholic Church believes that homosexuality is a sin, but the last time I checked, they don't control the United States.

As a life long Catholic, I really believe that this is one sin thats between each individual and God. I cannot believe that God would condone your suggestion that the Cheneys either condemn their daughter, or cut her out of their lives? I know you don't say this exactly, but I can't imagine what other choice you feel they would have (tough love after all), if she refuses to change.

I hope someday she will choose to no longer be gay and disgusting and she can enjoy all the rights granted to all good straight Christian Americans.

Gosh, you make it sound so simple.

Just wake up one morning and decide to not be gay.

Just think. Like turning on a light switch, she wouldn't have to endure being lectured by "christians" or by people like you calling her "disgusting."

It sounds so easy. Wonder why she just doesn't up and do it? She must like being treated like dirt.

Sheesh!!

If some1 engages in homosexual & lesbian activities, we must change their behavior to only straight behavior or celibacy.

LOL!!! Who's "we"? You think you have the right to just walk up to somebody and tell them how they must act?

Social conservatives must condemn VP Cheney for supporting his daughter's sex life.

Cheney supports his daughter. If you're ever a parent, you'll understand what that means.

""Conservative" is definitely in the eye (or some other cavity) of the beholder."

What? You want do condemn Dick Cheney for supporting his daughter's sex life? Just what exactly do you want him to do? Kick her out of his life?

What business is it of ours how he deals with his daughter?

Sinkspur opines, "But, it's not about concern for human beings, is it? It's about how good you are and how rotten they are." Feel bigger now sinky? You have quite a menagerie of straw-men I've seen of late.

If more gay people, in particular the spokepeople, acted dignified like this, it would help their cause.

Are the libs worried that Mary Cheney will steal away the "gay vote" from the RATs?

You must be a very, very lonely person. After all, if you condemn anyone who loves and supports an imperfect person, you condemn all around you and yourself. The fact that you don't understand Kerry was more immoral in his 'redux outing' of Mary Cheney than Dick Cheney is in loving his daughter, shows you need a long talk with the Lord. Hint - He talks, you're suppose to listen.

What is the point of calling someone a degenerate? Do you think that depiction is going to motivate them to change?

You offered, "Mary Cheney is a very classy woman and very articulate." While I wouldn't use the 'very', I would agree she has class and she is definitely articulate ... listened to her interview with Sean Hannity recently. Contrary to the specious comments of a recent post of this thread, it is not at all contradictory to be classy and a homosexual ... Mary doesn't toss her homosexuality up in our collective faces, and with her exposure potential that qualifies as classy, maybe even very classy. It is apparent that some cannot fathom a Christian calling degeneracy what it is while still caring deeply about the fellow human being. Oh well, that's as much a lack of class as Mary's restraint is classy.
