I was PO'd when former Gov. Roy Barnes appointed Zell to take Paul Coverdell's place after Coverdell died. Zell seemed like a Friend of Bill ("he really feeeeeeeeels our pain") - that keynote address stuck in my mind. But he surprised me. Zell is one Democrat who would have my vote in a heartbeat. Too bad he retired to Young Harris, Georgia to be with his grandchildren and teach college.
There are a lot of times when voting for a democrat is not that bad.
And those times are mainly in heavily democrat cities like Baltimore, and Wash, DC where the democrat primary winner is basically the winner.
Your vote only counts in the dem primary. Voting in the general election means nothing as in the Nifong reelection of Duke Lacrosse fame.
No biggie. I've voted for conservative Democrats (of the Zell Miller variety) on a local level myself.
He's more conservative than most republicans!
As I see it, there is not necessarily a need to vote straight ticket if you do your research.

What should make you ALL madder than hell is that IMMIGRATION is not just something like ONE BAD "VOTE" at one time--like an Abortion Stance you are allowed on to change your mind just that ONCE!! or some other topic just ONCE!! But THEN--when in Office--never AGAIN!!

I fully understand why you will vote for Shaffer. When he way Mayor of Balto it was a much better place than it is today. He's a good guy even if he's in the wrong party.
However, should you vote for a scumbag like O'Malley, do not even think of coming back here. Read about O'Malley (in something other than the Sun) and you'll quickly learn he's the worst kind of Socialist and is as incompetent a Mayor as Schmoke was.
I have to vote in the local elections on the Democratic Primary side because if I don't I won't have a say in the matter.
