Time for a new FreeRepublic folding@home thread.
Our FreeRepublic team of 325+ members comprised primarily of Free Republic members in good standing have banded together to donate their excess CPU cycles to a worthy cause. Via distributed computing, millions of computers around the world, contribute directly to scientific research, in the quest for a greater understanding of diseases such as Alzheimer's, Cancer, and Mad Cow (BSE).
Currently, the team is in 108th place (with 991 active CPUs - 34,150 completed Work Units and more than 6,000,000 points).
This is an entirely voluntary program, and if you want to learn more, please see the links posted below (or read one of the previous 16 folding threads)

You can adjust the CPU usage and I would recommend you lower it to 80-90% on a laptop. I also run it on a laptop and have no heat problems at 85%.

LOL! My first laptop I put this on (running the Linux client, BTW) indicated I was working on a project and that I had completed 0 out of 10,000,000 steps. Since it was maxing out my temp sensor, and the fan was roaring, I exited out.
My work (Windows XP home) laptop is now dedicated to this.
The number of frames doesn't matter as some frames only take 2-3 seconds complete while other can take 7-10 minutes. At any rate, even the largest WUs (646 points) should complete within 7 days if your CPU is on 24/7.

F@H is helping make a difference in research that can affect the lives of everyone. Once scientists have enough data on how and why proteins fold, they'll be able to use this data to search for cures for the most devastating diseases. The sooner this data is collected, the sooner we'll be able to see tangible results really take effect.
Going through the advanced config program start (or direct editing of the configuration file) will allow one to set the computer in question to use a max given percent of CPU time and allow for less heat generation. For laptops running more or less continuously, I set the display at some angle to the keyboard slightly below 90 deg. and place the laptop on its side with the fan outlet on the up side. Laptops seem to run the coolest in that position.

I pass the Fremont Fry's everyday on the way to work but the Concord Fry's is closer on the weekends. Bobibutu I think you are in the Bay Area, what Fry's is local to you? Tax, what Fry's calls your name?

Toss-up - Concord is the closer when traffic is down on the 24 over the weekends.
I tend to shy away from Fry's as it takes too much time if something has to be returned. But if they really have a "deal" or 2 I might be tempted.
Our daily average dropped from 48K to 40K, which is not too bad.

Fortunately for us, Klutz_dohanger continues to produce 4,000 per day. I thought he would drop to 0.
My laptop gets me around 70 points/day, so Klutz gets more points in a day that I get in almost 2 months. Wow!
I have run 2 p2107's this month but got 0 credit for either of them. I ran a smaller WU in between and got credit for that one.
Anyone know why I am not getting my points?
