Sex with him could explain everything away...

Just guessing, but since the third player was implicated by the weakest of DNA evidence, Nifong is ecstatic to have something other than the victim's word to prop up his fiasco of a case.
No need for that, out of control DA's can be in any state!
I will say I would never send my kid to Duke. That's not NC's fault, that's Brodhead's fault imo. Failure to support these kids and their families in an effort to be politically correct has done irreperable damage (again, in my uneducated opinion).

Here's another possible motive for all the media hatred being directed at these young men. Maybe it's been mentioned, but I haven't seen it.
The gays that I have encountered usually virulently hate everything about male athletes and sports, particularly college athletes. The more 'white' and 'establishment' the sport, probably the greater the hatred.
These young Duke lacrosse players not only represent the young white male establishment, they represent the young HETEROSEXUAL male establishment. This is particularly true because of the crime with which they're charged.
I doubt if that's got anything to do with Nifong's nasty little agenda, but it may very well have something to do with the sickening enabling of his actions from certain members of the media.
Thank goodness he IS well connected. He's going to need good connections to get a decent job and then get along with his life.
