The double standard of the anti-Christian elites is once again apparent to any who are willing to open their eyes to it. Even though I am not a Catholic, the double standard between the way this movie is being previewed, and the way The Passion of the Christ was previewed is just so obvious. Christianity really is the last acceptable thing to be bigoted against in the US.

"But that it will be a box-office smash, that it is the subject of lavish praise in the press, that it is the best-selling novel of the 21st century, tells us we live not just in a post-Christian era, but in an anti-Catholic culture not worth defending or saving, for it is truly satanic."

Sure Pat.."box-office smash"...is that why they have delayed it's release? Maybe they're just trying to build more hype because it's an evil satanic dog of a movie.

But folks will probably go see it anyway even though they know the whole sordid tale by now.

undermining the faith of millions of Christians

(Checking my faith). Yep, still there. Can't speak for the other "millions."

Ha, you are really catching heat for this last line. Basically all traditional American values, traditions and customs are under attack. What was good is now bad, and what was bad is good. Welcome to Bizzaro America. It really is amazing (and infuriating) to watch.

Amata has a delayed sense of outrage. Cartoons such as these have been published every day in the Arab world since 1948. I know of no such similar outrage over them from the church.

It's a bit late in the game to start voicing complaints over a science fiction movie about Christianity.

There are enough Catholics in the US, and non-Catholics who would defend them (other Christians and Jews) that they should have enough political power if they would only defend their faith from the popular culture's smear. However, as a whole (generalization, not overgeneralization), Catholics simply accept popular culture without a protest. Until the last election most voted for the pro-abortion and Anti-christianity party. Will Catholics boycott this movie and ask other Christians to do the same? Will they boycott any future Hanks and Howard movies? Will they heap scorn and shame onto their heads for this bigoted and vicious movie? If not, then whining about it will not be enough.

a film that can only have the effect of undermining the faith of millions of Christians?

If your faith is so fragile that it will be undermined by a freaking MOVIE, then stay home and keep the faith.

2 Chronicles 36:16 (Whole Chapter)
But the people mocked these messengers of God and despised their words. They scoffed at the prophets until the LORD's anger could no longer be restrained and there was no remedy.

Funny. 13 posts and I have yet to read anything from the A-men-chorus-for-Israel standing up for anti-bigotry when it comes to Christianity. I mean the same Freepers who swarm every time an article (of gasp, Buchannon) is posted and who blast him for an anti-semite.

The double standard of how our media and "elites" treat Christianity versus Islam could not be more stark.

In my opinion, there are two reasons for it.

#1: Cowardice. This is the reason for 80% of them. They'd love to attack Islam, but they're simply too scared.

#2: Hatred of Christians. For the other 20%, it's the old axiom--the enemy of my enemy is my friend.

In the United States, to deny the Holocaust happened or suggest that it has been exaggerated is not a crime, but marks one down as a social leper.

Pat should know.

I'm sorry but there'll be no criticizing this book. The book is being placed on the bookshelf under the numbers 810-819.99 in the Dewey Decimal system and therefore through some sort of magic becomes undebatable.

If I were to place it over on that book shelf numbered 900-999 then you would be allowed to criticize it.

But whenever a book is placed under a sign printed with the numbers 810-819.99 then the author can write whatever lies they want about you or anyone you care about and you have to sit there and take it.

Before long this thread will be flooded with responses highlighting this foolishness.

Just curious, I haven't read the book and don't plan on seeing the movie, but will many people who've read the book actually go see the movie? And, apparently, a lot of people have read the book (or at least bought it).

How about Freepers who've read the book: do you plan on seeing the film?

All gods should be open to mocking. If the gods do not like it, they have it within their wherewithal to do something about it. If they decide to let the mocker continue his mocking, it must be because they have deigned to do so.

In other words, deities should be powerful enough that they do not require mere mortals to carry their water for them.

The very notion that a work of fiction should in any way be censored is absurd...and against every enlightened principal that this country was founded on.

If ones faith is so frail as to be swayed or insulted by the imaginings of a mere mortal then one should self check their faith to be sure it's not the fiction.

Ah! If Howard, et al, can make a buck with "Nancy Drew and Da Vinci's Junior Jumble", so what? I am reminded of "The Life of Brian" by Monty Python's crew and the chorus of harrumphing that ensued about that.

Get over yourselves. It's no big deal.

Personally, I'm going to jump on the bandwagon and start shopping a little religio/comedy/gay-coming-of age script that I call "Brokeback Mecca", or "Ho, Ho, Ho-Mohammed".

Starring Gilbert Gottfried as a gay pedophile prophet, and John Goodman as his "right hand man", (running gag throughout the movie), this wacky duo will crack you up with their hijinks and halal-hilarity!

Featuring quotations from the late, great, Ayatollah Khomeini (played by Whoopi Goldberg), like:

"The meat of horses, mules, or donkeys is not recommended. It is strictly forbidden if the animal was sodomized while alive by a man. In that case, the animal must be taken outside the city and sold."

Buddha! There's 10 minutes of hyuks in that bit alone as every person in Iran hikes out of town with flocks and herds of animals to sell! Put some lipstick and eyeshadow on them and audiences'll laugh 'til their sides ache!

A few "gays should BE stoned, not GET stoned", cracks and we're almost there.

Throw in some anti-Christian stuff and a few Jew jokes, and it's gold! Guaranteed!

Now, if I can only get a fatwah whipped on this little baby...
