Would Medved be happy with it if he believed it weren't a PR stunt?

I agree...if he were serious then he would be rolling out what federal troops are available in CONUS to seal the border until such time a big wall was built and the Border Patrol was drastically increased in both size and firepower.

I don't think so. He just stated that 5,000 troops cannot secure 1600+ mile border.

His stand on illegals is not conservative.

Yeah, I figured.

So what's his solution? A wall? Punishing employers who hire illegals? Repealing the anchor baby laws? Cutting off their welfare freebies? ....Any effective measures?

Or is he among the "they're doing jobs American just won't do" crowd who are only too happy to give them amnesty?

According to my handy dandy Microsoft calculator that's 0.32 Guardsmen per mile...

He definitely wants the wall but he just cited some poll that a majority of Americans are against the wall. I don't know why that would be. He also favors some kind of guest worker program.

Most folks understand that troops cannot solve the problem. I find it difficult to see the United States as a country with a militarized border. Border security, sure. High tech sensors, sure. But I do think there has to be a legalized path to citizenship. Some of you know I have a Thai wife who came here with through the legal process (fiancee visa, temp green card, green card, citizenship). Through that process we learned that it's incredibly broken. FIX that and put some REASONABLE numbers of visas for LEGAL immigrants and you will wipe out the illegal problem. No one should forfeit their position in line, but I'm in favor of speeding the line for everyone with more resources devoted to checking the background of potential green card recipients and speeding the process for citizenship assuming the immigrant shows allegiance for this country; English as the first language and willing to work hard and obey the law.

Medved just said that he believes President Bush will eventually support building a wall.

My opinion is that The President will support UAVs, and high tech approaches to border security.

And that assumes 24/7 shifts. Maybe that's why its a "virtual fence."

Armed with Hellfire Missiles?

(Just kidding!)

Medved stated that although he thinks the majority of Minutemen are patriots and good people, he doesn't support them because he doesn't think they aren't effective. I disagree. I think although they may not be effective in rounding up huge numbers, the attention they have generated has been good at alerting more Americans to the problem on the Southern border.

We do not need a wall.

They can tunnel under it and we need to able o see who's over there.

We need an Israeli style trench, barbed wire, fence, road more fence and barbed wire with high tech and voluteer monitors.

What are UAV's? I know I should know that but my brain is not computing the acronym.
