This goes a long way to explain the delay in searching the house.

Oh. I thought this had something to do with Los Angeles International..

Going from memory. Sorry if I left anyone out.
Since when should Duke have done anything? It was a police matter from the beginning.
And slow to do what? Considering Nifong is purposefully dragging his feet on prosecution, he's the one acting slowly. Duke actually jumped in with both feet cancelling the season.
But I guess if you believe the acuser, then they should have executed the students or something.
So let's look at the publically known events:
1) Kim Roberts - Not reliable changed her
story.
2) John Bissey - Said there was an argument about money, time line seemed to be confirmed.
3) ATM photos and recepits. Cellphone records of time and maybe location.
4) 1st DNA test.
5) DPD assessment.
6) Rigged lineup.
Unless the second DNA test comes back positive, or a key witness, as a non-lawyer I don't see a case.
White men can't jump. I guess.
This is the most inane statement I have heard from anyone in a long, long time.
IOW, bunch of dumbasses is scholar's clothing.
Bush's Fault.... or..... Ambiens Fault..... Yeah that's the ticket!!!
Heck, it's not like the cops don't already have those women's number, when the call comes in.
That would really haved sucked if indeed there was a rape.
I expect most of you who have been following this on FR are fully aware of the implications of this sort of accusation in the South.
Rape isn't a hand-slap sort of case in North Carolina. If these guys are convicted they won't see the light of day for many years. Defense counsel notwithstanding, nobody around this part of the country wants rapists on the streets. De facto life sentences (30-60 years) are common for first-time rape convictions when there is any kind of aggravating circumstance.
Partially because of a history of lynching, there is an exaggerated concern with "messing" with women of another race. Historically African-americans were subject to being lynched on suspicion, whites were held to very heavy penalties on conviction. Even now, juries and judges aren't going to cut these guys any slack if they are found guilty.
I share in the distress that some feel over the fact that these guys will have to put their educations and their careers on hold. I feel a little outrage over the fact that these guys are going to receive nothing but blame and harsh discipline from their school even if they are innocent.
My big concern is that these guys and their lawyers recognize the size of the stakes and protect themselves (again, if innocent) against wrongful conviction. In my judgement this is a 15-25 year sentence hanging over them.
I don't think the defense is going to hurry anything along, if that hurry might add any risk at all to the chances of conviction.
Please excuse my egotism here, cuz I'm beginning to sniff out a theory of why this case is so screwed up.
I'm thinking that the Durham Police, who got a nuisance call about the Buchanan house and a call about the drunk AV being in 2nd Dancer's car, had one reading of the situation-- Drunk AV, misdemeanors by the Lax guys.
AV at the hospital runs into a different set of law enforcement folks with substantially different training. A Duke University LEO and the hospital sexual assault specialist have a different reading-- Traumatized AV, major crime on Buchanan.
It takes 31 hours for the Durham Police to even get a connection with the AV and file a report. They still are not that excited about a story with a lot of problems.
Nifong has a connection with the Duke Police folks and jumps in on their assurance that the case is serious.
The situation at that point is all NO CASE with the Durham Police who see the problems. It is all GUILTY and BIG with Nifong and the pro-woman hospital and Duke folks who don't know any background about the AV.
The rest of the story is familiar to you folks and still unfolding.
