Kitty lovers I have a question. Would you be upset if your neighbor was trapping cats and taking them away? I had some kittens that showed up on my deck last October so I set up my cathouse on the deck and I fed them all winter. They grew and around Easter Time my neighbor’s young son told my daughter that his father caught the RED cat with his trap and took him away. My kid was hysterical crying. The trap is in the back of his shed because the cats pee on his shed. What should I do?

Not much you can do. Strays can be trapped and taken to the animal shelter. And if the cat belongs to someone then it's up to the owner to track down the cat at the shelter before it's euthanized. I love cats (have two myself) but I've also trapped cats on my property that were spraying and upsetting my (exclusively indoor) cats and taken them to the shelter. Nothing smells worse than male cat spray, and responsible cat owners get cats spayed/neutered.

"Taking them away?" Where? To drown?

Is there a cat repellent you can spray the traps with? Maybe wolf pee (deer repellent) would work.

Personally, I'd smash the traps.

Do you have a friend in another town or can you write a newspaper anonomously to see what, if any punishment there might be for that in your area?

I wouldn't call the cops and identify myself until I had all the info, in case I had to resort to guerilla warfare.

Your neighbor is a schmuck and you should destroy his life.

Ooops! Please ignore that last sentence!!!

Talk to the animal control people. Unless he has permission from civil authority, what he's doing may be illegal.
