I've always impressed folks with the fact that May 6th is also the birthday of Willie Mays.

Say Hey!!!

I am celebrating the Fifth of May by going to work. For lunch, I will have some risotto with spring vegetables. For dinner, some Afghan, followed by a theatre date.

"Cinco de Mayo" what's that? ;-)

BTW: The biggest celebrants of Cinco de Mayo are white frat boys, dude.

The intent of my all-American-sounding "Happy Fifth of May Day" concept is to turn the tables on those who feel it's ok to trample on something true Americans value - our national anthem, song in English. It's more of a psy-ops hypocrit litmus test for the former, which my hypothesis says they will fail miserably. However, I am presenting it somewhat tongue-in-cheek, sarcastically dubbing it multicultural revisionism.

What will YOU do for Fifth of May?

Let's see - we had our usual wonderful Friday Morning Men's Prayer Breakfast at church. Had a tee-time at 10:30, finished by 2:30pm - shot 77. Pretty darned good for May 5th, with a double-bogey OB on the 1st hole.

Later, it's Tex-mex dinner with friends, then home in time to watch the Avs vs. Ducks game 1 Western Conference semi-final. All in all, a pretty nice day, thanks for asking.

Where I live, there are several - I mean a HUGE percentage of streets which have spanish names. In fact, the city has a spanish name. With my kids, I make it a habit to call the spanish-named streets and such by their english names.
Palo Verde Rd. becomes Green Wood Rd.
Camino de la Manana becomes Tomorrow Way.
El Camino Real becomes The Dirt Road.
The town is Sierra Vista which becomes Mountain View.
The local high school is Buena High School which becomes Good High School.
We often travel through Casa Grande on our way to visiting my father in Mesa - which becomes Big House and my dad lives in Table.

Now, tell me that if you go to Mexico that you will find similarly english named streets, towns, and schools. You will never find in all of Mexico a street named "The Dirt Road", "Green Wood Rd." or "Tomorrow Way". You will never find a town named, in English, "Mountain View" or a city named "Table" or "Big House". Nor will you find a school named "Good High School".

Who is assimilating who?

I'm amused at the trendy way some Americans pronounce Mexico: "Mehico". I'm pretty sure that in Mexico, no one says "United States", right? It's always, "Estados Unitos". I guess this Tolerate Diversity street is a one-way hypocritical avenido.

Your secret screen name is safe with us.

By the way, dinner will be served tonight at the ranch this evening at the fashionable hour. Please be punctual.
