I always thought it was "duct tape" (it was designed to tape ducts) I thought when people called it "duck tape" they were mispronounging it. Are we allowed to go around taping ducks (provided we can catch one and hold him still long enough)?

Cake, I think it's both actually. Searching for Duck Tape or Duct Tape on Google will both give you product results. As for taping ducks, someone beat you to it.
