Woman Gets 20 Years for Sex With Stepson

TYLER, Texas - A 39-year-old woman who had sexual relationship with her teenage stepson and later gave birth to their child has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Carla Kay Dinger pleaded guilty to sexual assault of a child before Tuesday's sentencing. She was also ordered to pay a $10,000 fine.

She admitted carrying on a sexual relationship for two years with her then-stepson, starting in 1998 when he was 14. It ended when Dinger found out she was pregnant with her stepson's child, prosecutor Jason Parrish said.

The stepson told his mother about the relationship in 2001, and she told Dinger's husband. He confronted Dinger and she admitted to the affair, Dinger has said. Dinger and the teen's father divorced in 2002.

The child she had with the teen is now 6 years old. Dinger had primary custody until 2004, when she and her ex-husband began sharing custody.

Dinger has tried to change her life, going to counseling and attending church, said her attorney, Clifton Holmes. She owns and operates a medical equipment business in Tyler, about 100 miles southeast of Dallas.

Dinger's former stepson, now 22, filed a lawsuit in 2004 against her seeking monetary damages.

In the lawsuit, he said Dinger had frequently provided him with methampetamines and alcohol.

The two had made plans for Dinger to divorce his father so they could marry, he said. But after Dinger found out she was pregnant, she sent him to live with his mother and told him not to tell anyone, he said.

He wants money. He doesn't want custody of his child.

Sounds like both of them were screwed up. If he's on meth he ain't going to be getting any better. No wonder he was suing. Probably needed more money for meth.

Ick. Just ick. How could this woman think this was OK?

When I was married, my ex's son was just like he was my own. Can't imagine myself in a situation like this. Never. Ever.

Obviously this women is pretty dam sick, but 20 years? I'm of the opinion that the punishment should fit the damage done to the victim. A 14 year old probably wasn't harmed that much.

I think the sentence is a little too steep especially since there is a child involved who knows this woman as her mother.....

sentences are so out of whack anymore....that guy in Utah who killed his own pregnant wife got a sentence of 5 or 6 yrs to 20 years...for MURDER OF TWO....

Please, please just no mofo jokes.

Seriously, this sort of thing not only happens, it probably happens more than we dare suspect, and it is just one more symptom of societal decay.

As another poster alluded to, it isn't so decayed that it can't be re-packaged as "entertainment" and everybody says "Well Jerry...."

(sigh)

How is this case any different from Woody Allen? Yet he was never even charged with anything.

Wasn't Woody Allen's stepdaughter 16? There may be a legal distinction, but they are morally both despicable.
