i haven't noticed anything closed today. but i will look around. there was much less traffic coming in to work, but i have GOT to think that it is because people want to avoid coming into DC bc of the traffic that the march will generate and not because of any show of solidarity. I know that the franchise owner of the DD is hispanic, bc i have seen him in there. and they were open and the hispanic ladies were behind the counter, as usual.

and oh, by the way. NEITHER Of my parents grew up speaking either Ukrainian or Lithuanian in their homes. my parents did not speak their parents language EVER. they assimilated.

You mean you never sang the national anthem in Lithuanian?

Just kidding.

After a long day at work and a couple of hours at the phone banks, then I'll be shopping.

i had been meaning to ask you, who are you supporting in OH. My SIL doesn't know which to vote for, she said mud is being slung against both. i was thinking Blackwell was the correct choice?

i am going to be telling grandma stories all day today in honor of MY IMMIGRANTS. stories of LEGAL IMMIGRATION. My Lithuanian gram never had any education, in EITHER country. she was totally illiterate. but she passed her citizenship test. AND, KDKA always had some sort of contests going on, i don't even know how they got her name to make the call, but she was called by KDKA for an on air contest and she answered the questions correctly and if IIRC it had something to do with the Supreme Court or the Constitution and the only reason she knew the answer was bc of studying for her citizenship test those many years before and she won. The prize was like a gazillion S&H green stamps, which she redeemed for like FURNITURE that is how much she won. she got at least 2 chairs for her living room and a rocking chair to boot. i was in HS at the time.

I'm a wuss when it comes to wind, it gives me a headache if I'm out in it too long.

I'm hoping the wind will die down a bit when the tide changes. 25mph out of the northeast off the water is a bit much for me.

I'm going to be looking forward to your grandma stories. I never knew my paternal grandmother and my paternal grandfather never spoke of Ireland, and he died when I was only about 7. My maternal grandparents were both born in NYC. So I have no immigrant stories about my family.
