Word For The Day, Monday, 5/1/06
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
ingrate; noun
n : a person who shows no gratitude [syn: thankless wretch, ungrateful person]
Etymology: [From Middle English ingrat, ungrateful, from Old French, from Latin ingrtus : in-, not; see in-1 + grtus, pleasing, thankful; see gwer-2 in Indo-European Roots.]
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....
i wish i had waited to do the grocery shopping til today, bc that is always a major expenditure, but i had nothing for the kids lunches or dinner last night. i did make sure i got GAS this AM even though it wasn't as low as i usually let it get before filling.
Good morning, mommy!
Good morning, to you Robert!
So you're already bronzed and gabz'gonna do somethong in the sun today?
Yikes - I need more coffee........That should read
To be honest, I have VERY FEW outdoor plans for today.....the wind is driving me bananas.
i haven't noticed anything closed today. but i will look around. there was much less traffic coming in to work, but i have GOT to think that it is because people want to avoid coming into DC bc of the traffic that the march will generate and not because of any show of solidarity. I know that the franchise owner of the DD is hispanic, bc i have seen him in there. and they were open and the hispanic ladies were behind the counter, as usual.
The only thing wind prevents for me is spray painting.
You mean you never sang the national anthem in Lithuanian?
Just kidding.
After a long day at work and a couple of hours at the phone banks, then I'll be shopping.
i had been meaning to ask you, who are you supporting in OH. My SIL doesn't know which to vote for, she said mud is being slung against both. i was thinking Blackwell was the correct choice?
Debra Saunders:
"When I read, "no trabajo" (no work), I see activists who are ready to stick it to their most potent lobby, American employers, which makes them ingrates."

I'm going to the grocery store with my frienddown the road in an hour or so. We need to pick up her daughter's b'day cake to get it to school at noon.
And I need to pick up the ingredients I need for the bean salad I'm making to take the the Moose Lodge this evening.....officer induction ceremonies are tonight and hubby was elected to some office or another, so I pormised to contribute to "dinner."
I think that's Fox's midle name: Vincente Ingratios Fox.
i am going to be telling grandma stories all day today in honor of MY IMMIGRANTS. stories of LEGAL IMMIGRATION. My Lithuanian gram never had any education, in EITHER country. she was totally illiterate. but she passed her citizenship test. AND, KDKA always had some sort of contests going on, i don't even know how they got her name to make the call, but she was called by KDKA for an on air contest and she answered the questions correctly and if IIRC it had something to do with the Supreme Court or the Constitution and the only reason she knew the answer was bc of studying for her citizenship test those many years before and she won. The prize was like a gazillion S&H green stamps, which she redeemed for like FURNITURE that is how much she won. she got at least 2 chairs for her living room and a rocking chair to boot. i was in HS at the time.
A+ bite the hand that feeds you. /nine inch nails ; )
Love the picture. Fun thing to do.
I'm a wuss when it comes to wind, it gives me a headache if I'm out in it too long.
I'm hoping the wind will die down a bit when the tide changes. 25mph out of the northeast off the water is a bit much for me.
muy desagradecido es el/ A+
I'm going to be looking forward to your grandma stories. I never knew my paternal grandmother and my paternal grandfather never spoke of Ireland, and he died when I was only about 7. My maternal grandparents were both born in NYC. So I have no immigrant stories about my family.
