This case is a textbook for why a prosecutor should not get involved in a case until the police have completed their investigation. By assuming early control, Nifong did not have sufficient distance to evaluate this case objectively and assess its weaknesses.

This case is a textbook for why a prosecutor should not get involved in a case until the police have completed their investigation.

From what we have read, Nifong took the investigation away from the DPD, which Freda Black said was unheard of in Durham.

And I guess that explains why Nifong decided to try it himself.
