Old computer game, 1980's, Tandy maybe

My kids are asking about a computer game they played in the 80's, it was driven by input from a book that may be as few as a line or two to several pages, if they input everything correctly the screen may show fireworks or a similar display, I'd appreciate any help with this.

I would assume that they were using one of the simpler computers like the Color Computer 2 or 3. Those computers included a users manual that contained source code for a handful of simple programs. Some stored data, there was a simple game or two, a basic calculator, and a couple programs that did basic animations and drew fractal "fireworks" on the screen.

Since they were demo programs, it's unlikely that they even had names, so you'll probably never find them on the Internet. Even if you did, they were written in Tandy Basic and won't run on modern PC's.

If you really want the programs, do some googling on Tandy Color Computer users guides or manuals. You might get lucky and find one that's been scanned somewhere.

If it is from Tandy-RadioShack, I can in turn make a liberal guess: the game you imply is one played on a TRS-80, also known as Trash-80 home-computer, or a Tandy- RadioShack Color Computer .

I would hazard to say this 'educational game' as it sounds, is probably stored on cassette tape, not a ROM plug in module !

I used to go to Radio Shack in the Mall when I was a kid, back in the 80's. I played a game on the computer there that was text based, and had you exploring a haunted house. You would say "look left" or "open door" or other similar simple commands. Don't remember what it was called.

My first "real" computer game was "688 Attack Sub." You played it head to head with a friend over a modem connection. Anyone remember that one? Anone have that one on disk?
